Job Title: Director of Entrepreneurial DevelopmentReports to: Executive Vice President – Economic Futures Group
Location: Spartanburg, SC
FLSA Classification:Non-Exempt
Position Summary:
The Director ofEntrepreneurial Development (DED) serves in two primary capacities.
- The DED will be responsible for administering and implementing small business and entrepreneurial programming for the Economic Futures Group (EFG).
- The DED will also be responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of the Spartanburg Angel Network (SAN).
- Lead all activities of the Spartanburg Entrepreneurial Resource Network (SERN). Duties includes: gathering and utilizing input from partnering entities (Ex. Service Core of Retired Executives, Small Business Development Center, Spartanburg Community College, USC-Upstate School of Business, and Wofford College), coordinating resources, formulating, executing, and tracking defined and measurable objectives. (30%)
- Seek sources of grant funding and work with SERN to disseminate funds to effective initiatives designed to grow our entrepreneurial community. (15%)
- Provide direct consultation services to prospective and existing small businesses and entrepreneurs in Spartanburg County. (10%)
- Develop, implement and support initiatives designed to create a healthy entrepreneurial ecosystem in Spartanburg County. (10%)
- Partner with the Upstate Angel Network to grow the number of accredited SAN investors and the overall scope and effectiveness of the entity. (5%)
- Plan, coordinate, secure financial support for, and implement an annual forum/summit focused on entrepreneurism. (5%)
- In concert with the Director of Marketing, develop a strategy to market entrepreneurial activities and resources to internal and external markets. (5%)
- In concert with the Chamber, assist with the Small Business Council (5%)
- Research best practices from similar programs and bring recommendations to leadership. (5%)
- Represent SERN and SAN at local, regional and national levels as appropriate.(5%)
- Additional duties as assigned.(5%)
- Banking, business development, marketing or related experience (preference is for 5+ years)
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Strong business acumen
- Excellent project management skills from project initiation to execution
- Ability to consult entrepreneurs in business planning, regulatory considerations, and financing
- Proven track record of exceptional customer service
- Results focused with the ability to develop and execute strategic plans (metric)
- Ability to work both independently and on diverse and dynamic teams
- Ability to think strategically about fundraising and capital opportunities for local entrepreneurs
- Proficient using all MS office programs
- Ability to work nights and weekends to accommodate after hours meetings and events
- Ability to travel locally and regionally
- Five (5) years banking, business development or related experience
- MBA or related advanced degree or certification (economic development, business, banking, etc.)
- Previous experience working with volunteer boards or non-profits
- Grant writing and/or administration experience and other non-profit fundraising experience
- Previous event planning experience
