NEW HOSTED PRESCHOOL DESTINATION

BALTIMORE, MD (September 7)– The groundbreaking Baltimore rock band for all ages, MILKSHAKE, serves up some mighty tasty musical treats for preschoolers this fall on PBS KIDS’ new interactive, multi-platform preschool destination (check local listings). Through daily themed activities, music and movement, PBS KIDS’ new preschool destination will inspire children by nurturing a love of learning about themselves and the world around them through creative expression and exploration, while also encouraging positive healthy development. As part of these daily themes, Milkshake will perform original music videos that will air throughout the fall.
“We think children need music that they can call their very own,” says Lisa Mathews of Milkshake. “And we’d like to think we’ve created exactly that in our PBS KIDS music videos. Kids need fun, hip, contemporary music that’s age-appropriate and relevant to their lives. If parents enjoy the music, too … well, that’s a beautiful thing!”
Singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl are the stars of Milkshake, whose music videos have been a popular feature on the NOGGIN Channel’s‘Jack’s Big Music Show’and will also soon be seen on the Emmy Award-winning ‘ToddWorld,’airing on DISCOVERY KIDS and TLC. Former members of Baltimore’s indie rock group Love Riot, Lisa and Mikel changed gears in 2002 to celebrate and reflect the new focus in their lives brought about by having children. Beneath Milkshake’s kid-friendly lyrics and effervescent outlook on the worldexists a rock band whose music has grown and evolved right along with Lisa’s and Mikel’s own children, with influences ranging from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Julie Andrews, and the Beatles to The White Stripes. Milkshake has released two award-winning CDs – Happy Songs,’ and ‘Bottle of Sunshine.’ A third album, ‘PLAY!,’ is set for a November 2006 release.
Milkshake’s role on PBS KIDS will be part of a framework in which daily curriculum-based storylines will be connected between shows, exploring topics and issues relevant to a preschooler’s world, such as getting along with siblings, sharing, accepting differences, and facing fears.
