Scholarship Guidelines and Application

This scholarship may be used at any two or four-year College or University

Trade, Technical and Cosmetology Schools are ineligible

Scholarship Award: 1st Place $1,000.00

Eligibility:

African American male high school senior attending school in Arlington or Tarrant County area:

  • Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Completed Scholarship Application
  • Complete Academic Profile
  • Application and required documents must be postmarked by March 31, 2014
  • Must be able to attend scheduled interview
  • Finalists will be notified of interviews by April 5, 2014
  • Financial need will be considered

  • Official high school transcript - Transcript must be unopened with the counselor’s signature along the back of the envelope. Submitting an unofficial transcript will disqualify your application.
  • Proof of SAT or ACT score – All scores must be sealed and unopened. Students can order their scores from the ACT/SAT testing websites. Submitting unsealed scores will disqualify your application.
  • Three letters of recommendation from a teacher, principal, counselor, community/civic leader, minister/pastor, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, or Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
  • 1000 word essay, 1” margin, doubled spaced, typed, 12 point font on the topic:

“Who has been the most influential leader in the African American community in this past century?”
