A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE WILSON HALL “BARONS” FOOTBALL TEAM OF SUMTER COUNTY ON ITS VICTORY IN THE 2003 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly applaud the Wilson Hall “Barons” Football Team of Sumter County on winning the state championship in an exciting twopoint victory over the Heathwood Hall Football Team; and
Whereas, the game of football affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing unique physical and mental talents; and
Whereas, a football championship requires every member of the team and coaching staff to possess special leadership skills and athletic abilities; and
Whereas, using those talents, Head Coach Eddie Talley; Assistant Coaches Chuck McCord, Joe Allbritton, Alan Moore, Hunter Sheridan, and Deryl Skey; Managers Charles Evenich and Blake Hill; and the members of the team performed throughout their season with determination and precision to earn the title of the best football team in their division; and
Whereas, with the enthusiasm and hard work of every team member, the Wilson Hall “Barons” outscored Heathwood Hall in a thirtyfour to thirtytwo victory to earn the 2003 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA Championship crown; and
Whereas, the Wilson Hall team finished first in its conference with a record of 5-1, and achieved four postseason victories to finish first overall with a record of 9-1 on its way to its first football title in twentyeight years; and
Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Zach Graham, Andrew McCord, John Hunter Sheridan, William Allbritton, Derek Moore, Brett Eaves, Preston Kight, Chris McCoy, Ryan Lareau, Ryan Thompson, Michael Geddings, Matt Wright, McSwain Armfield, Tyler Fleming, Josh Allbritton, Shane Knight, George Carruth, Derek Liuzzo, Matt Smith, Marshall Clinkscales, Tripp Poplin, King Cutter, Chris Evans, Richard Jones, Jason Reddick, Dylan Reese, Hamilton Betchman, and Miller Moss; and
Whereas, the members of the Wilson Hall Varsity Cheerleading Team enthusiastically supported their team on to victory throughout the regular season, the playoffs, and the championship game; and
Whereas, the members of the cheerleading team are Jordan Kinder, Corey Moses, Logan Chandler, Lauren Henry, Emily Jackson, Alyssa Lennard, Anne Trent Rauch, Mollie Sharp, Nancy Sharp, Jenna Thalman, Katie Welch, and Candice Whitaker; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and encourage them to continue to use those skills in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Wilson Hall “Barons” Football Team of Sumter County on its victory in the 2003 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA State Championship Game.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Wilson Hall “Barons” Football Team and Head Coach Eddie Talley.
