BOU Travel Awards

For BOU ECR members attending the

International Ornithological Congress 2018, Vancouver, Canada

Awards

  • Six grants of £800* are available to support travel from outside north and central America.
  • 16 grants of £300* are available to support travel from within north and central America.
  • Applications are to attend the International Ornithological Congress (IOC2018) and priority will be given to applicants that have submitted abstracts to present a talk or poster at IOC2018.
  • Applicants may use the award to attract additional funding but the BOU will still expect prominent recognition on any presentation.

*USD rate will be based on currency conversion from GBP at the time of the award.

Eligibility

  • These awards are open to BOU ECR members only (three years post their last degree) who joined the BOU by 31 October 2017.

How to apply

  • Applications are open to existing BOU ECR members only.
  • The 2018 grants close for application on 31 January 2018.
  • Applications must be made using the form below.
  • Completed forms must be returned by email to .
  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome by the 31 March 2018.
  • The application must include a 300-500 word statement by the applicant outlining how they will benefit from this opportunity and any expected outcomes of their attendance.
  • The application must be accompanied by a written reference, preferably from the applicant's supervisor or line manager. These must be emailed to by 31 January 2018 and be clearly titled with the applicant’s name in the subject header of the email.
  • Award recipients will be personally responsible for all arrangements and expenditure including insurance.
  • Award recipients must submit a report in blog format describing their experience at the conference. These must be emailed to by 11 October 2018. This will be a condition of your personal BOU ECR membership as an award recipient and failure to submit a report may render your future membershipand/or access to member benefits void.
  • The BOU has copyright of these reports and can edit and publish some or all of the reports online as part of #theBOUblog.Authors of reports selected for publication will be given sight of the edited version before publication.
  • Applications will be assessed by a group comprising members of both the BOU’s Meetings and Engagement Committees.
