Headteachers: 10 x Primary, 10 x Secondary (one from each of the 10 Boroughs of Greater Manchester)

Remit and purpose of the group:

·  To act as advocates for high quality PE, physical activity and school sport across Greater Manchester.

·  To provide leadership to align strategies, both across Greater Manchester and nationally.

·  To respond to, and help shape, Greater Manchester-wide strategies for improving physical education, physical activity and school sport provision for all young people.

·  To develop a clear vision for the area, a strategic plan and a set of focus/priority actions to be achieved in the areas of PE, PA and SS.

·  To provide strategic thinking to join up and maximize PE, physical activity and school sport activities or opportunities.

·  To communicate and promote the strategic priorities to Greater Manchester schools and key stakeholders.

·  To provide leadership, management and governance to ensure the vision is realized.

·  To communicate and promote the strategic priorities to schools and key stakeholders.

·  To monitor and review progress and provide challenge as and when appropriate.

·  To provide an education/schools perspective to sport, health and cultural strategies and be consulted on other relevant regional agendas when appropriate (Greater Manchester Sport and Physical Activity Strategy).

·  To ensure the group is representative and involves relevant stakeholders when appropriate.

·  To hold a minimum of 3 meetings a year.

·  To review the vision, priorities, terms of reference and membership as and when appropriate.

Decision Making Processes

·  Decisions will be made on the basis of a simple majority vote (minimum of 6 members to represent a quorum). In the case of equal votes the Chairperson will be entitled to an additional casting vote.

Role of member:

·  Be passionate about PE, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) and its value within education.

·  Be the ‘champion’ for PESSPA in their authority and act as a focal point to communicate to their respective secondary and primary Heads.

·  Be able to represent the views of local schools and respective Head teacher networks.

·  Raise awareness and promote the broad range of PESSPA opportunities with local Head teachers/schools.

·  To have the capacity to attend 3 meetings per year and ensure the actions agreed are carried out.

·  To provide leadership, strategic direction, advice and relevant expertise for all matters relating to PESSPA.

·  Be able to share information and good practice on strategic issues/policies affecting the PESSPA sector.

·  Be willing to work in partnership with other Head teachers to ensure that policies and activities are implemented in a co-ordinated manner.
