STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (SIP) /

OVERSEAS STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (OSIP)

General Information
Objectives

▪  To enable final year students to gain valuable work experience in relevant industries.

▪  To provide companies with the opportunity to assess the quality of our students.

Allowance

CCM, RMT, LEM and HTM students: a minimum monthly take-home allowance of $650.

All other students: a minimum monthly take-home allowance of $600.

Employers are exempted from CPF contribution.

Many employers provide an allowance above this minimum amount. Overtime pay or off-in-lieu is payable for work beyond 44 hours per week.

Work Permit

Foreign students are exempted from work permit requirements.

Organisation Supervisor

Students will only receive instruction and guidance directly from their reporting companies. The company must assign at least a supervisor to oversee the performance and progress of the student.

Liaison Officer

A lecturer appointed to oversee the students attached to the company, shall serve as the Liaison Officer. Queries and clarifications can be directed to the Liaison Officer.

Training Programme (including orientation)

Employers are requested to submit a training programme which will be evaluated on its suitability. The scope of training can cover projects and/or job responsibilities in the areas listed in the application form. Should the programme be changed, employers are requested to inform the Liaison Officer as soon as possible.

Student Attendance & Schedule of Work

Attendance must be recorded daily and students should not be required to work beyond 11pm. All applications for compassionate and medical leave must be supported by official documents, and approved by both the Employer and the Polytechnic.

Insurance

Students are covered under the Polytechnic’s group insurance policy.

Overseas Assignment

Employers who require students to work outside Singapore should inform the Liaison Officer at least 2-3 weeks before the assignment to enable the Polytechnic to obtain parental consent and the necessary indemnities. Employers are required to take an insurance policy to cover the period of the trip.

Submission by Students

Students are required to complete a written report or portfolio detailing their experience in the organisation at the end of the internship period.

Learning Outcome Form

Employers are required to complete a learning outcome form before the commencement of the internship programme. The set of selected outcomes will serve as an understanding between the Company and Temasek Polytechnic. The form will reflect mutually-agreed learning outcomes between the two parties at an Initial meeting. The student should be briefed on the learning outcomes. If there are subsequent changes to the learning outcomes, updates should be recorded at the Final meeting.

Mentorship Programme

As part of our effort to develop an integrated, high quality system of education and training that responds to evolving industry needs, internship organisations are encouraged to facilitate mentorship activities during the internship programme. Under this programme, an experienced industry practitioner (mentor) from each SIP organisation will be appointed to provide professional guidance to a student (Mentee). Details of the programme will be explained to the Organisation Supervisors by our Liaison Officers (LOs).

Performance Appraisal

Employers are required to complete a performance appraisal on each student based on their work in the organisation. Employers are encouraged to review the performance appraisal with the students.

Company Feedback

At the end of the attachment period, employers are requested to complete the SIP Feedback form.

On-Campus Sessions

Students are required to attend on-campus sessions on Saturday(s). As this forms part of their assessment, employers are requested to allow students time-off on working Saturdays to attend these sessions.

Please refer to pages 3 & 4 for exact dates of the on-campus sessions for the respective diplomas.
