ADVANCED CREATIVE FILMREALIST fiction FILM ASSIGNMENT

General Objective: Apply realist film techniques in the creation of a 5-10 minute dramatic film that contains no more than 10 scenes.

Expectations: Individual: Write an original script.

Actively contribute to pre-production and production of film.

Create a realistic setting including appropriate props.

Select and develop a working script effectively incorporating

realistic characters in the chosen setting.

Create and effectively use storyboards.

Create and effectively use production slips.

Participate in effective rehearsals.

Reveal a basic competency in camera operation.

Show a basic competency in film technique.

Script requirements: All scripts must:

  • Follow the given script format.
  • Be focused on and develop a central conflict.
  • Contain a minimum number of believable character roles equal to the number of people in your group.
  • Illustrate a knowledge and use of techniques associated with realist film styles.

SCRIPT WRITING PROCESS:

  • As a group, brainstorm possible conflicts and story ideas.
  • Individually, write a script.
  • Type individual scripts.
  • FIRST 3 PAGES OF TYPED SCRIPTS WILL BE DUE ON Tuesday, Nov.4.
  • Pitch story ideas.
  • First drafts of typed scripts will be due onFriday, Nov. 7.

All scripts should be adequate for a 5-10 minute video.

  • Conduct readthroughs.
  • Revise individual scripts.
  • TURN IN ALL SCRIPTS ON Tuesday, Nov.11.

Scripts will be graded using the 6+1 Traits of Writing Scoring Guide.

  • Create a working script.
  • Make copies of the final working script for each member of your group.
  • Turn in one copy of the final working script, storyboards and production slips on the day your film is screened.
