Kirkwood-Webster Junior Football
2011 Kirkwood Cardinals 6th Grade Coach Skinner – Parent/Guardian Agreement
My coaching staff and I, Bill Skinner, would like all the parents to know, review and sign and date the following:
General
- Despite common belief, we do not get paid. We voluntarily coach your kids.
- We are not baby-sitters, we are football coaches.
- We emphasize discipline and the basic fundamentals of football. These two basic concepts help to prepare your child for the next level, high school football.
- We put your child’s safety first and foremost. If a child is not able to participate in football activities in a safe manner, it will be recommended that they no longer participate on this team.
o If a child is a distraction to the other players trying to learn the basic fundamentals, it may be recommended that they no longer participate on this team.
Tardiness and Absences
- If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re LATE!”
o Practice starts promptly at 6:30 and concludes at 8:30 the first two weeks, Monday – Friday. Starting the third week, we will scale practice down to Tu/Th/Friday from 6 -8 PM. If we do not start on time, we will not end on time.
- We expect all players to be on time for games and practice. Tardiness or unexcused absences will most likely result in a reduction in playing time for your child. Numerous unexcused absences may result in your child being dismissed from the team.
o There are over 300 kids in KWJFL, numerous coaches, and chances are one of them lives or works near you and may be able to give your child a ride to/from practice. So, there should be no excuse for tardiness or an unexcused absence, beyond extenuating circumstances. I will not be responsible for finding your child a ride to and from games or practices. It is your responsibility as the parent/guardian to find transportation.
o If you know up front you will have difficulty making any practices or games at the expected time, please give me as much advance notice as possible. An excused tardiness or absence does not guarantee that your child’s playing time will not be reduced.
o If their absence in practice results in the player being unable to perform their responsibilities in a safe manner, they will not be on the field as often as players who can perform in a safe manner.
Injuries
- First, I am not a doctor or a clinician; so I cannot personally provide any professional medical advice on what exactly the injury is that your child may have suffered. I can only provide educated guesses.
- We, the coaching staff make assessments on your child’s injury based upon what we saw, what the child tells us, and past history we have with the child.
- You as the parent/guardian know the health conditions and tendencies of your player better than anyone beyond the player themselves. So, if your child gets injured and it is not normal for him to be in pain, crying, or something along those lines; we fully expect you as a parent/guardian to override any decision the coaching staff may make.
Coaches
- If you have a question, concern, or a comment please talk to me before or after practice. During practice the coaches’ time is devoted to the kids.
- If you have a problem in which I or one of my assistants is coaching your child or treating them, please talk to us directly. If you are concerned with one of my assistants, please speak to them directly and involve me as you feel necessary.
- We respect everyone’s opinion and view on this team. However, coaching decisions are made by the coaching staff, solely.
o A child cannot have his/her spot on the team “Bought, Bullied, Bribed” or anything else that does not come from hard work, hustle and what they display during practice and games.
o We make every effort to put your child in a position or a side of the ball [Offense / Defense] that they desire to play. However, as this is a team sport, the child’s individual wants/needs will not supersede the team’s needs.
§ We cannot have 11 players at QB at the same time, as that is a bunch of individuals playing their own game. We are here to coach a team of 11 players at 11 different positions working together to reach a common goal.
Game Days:
o We will begin pre-game warm-ups promptly one-hour prior to the start of the game. If a player cannot show up to the game on time, it may jeopardize their playing time for that game.
Playing Time
o The league does not require us to perform “bench-clearing” during the game.
Post-Game
o I ask that you allow the coaching staff some “time to breath” (~24 hours) before approaching us about questions or concerns regarding the game that was just played or your child’s playing time.
§ Feel free to approach us after the game to inform us if your child will not be present sometime during next week’s practice or other logistical matters.
§ This is meant as a warning, since emotions are heightened during a football game and those emotions may carry over afterwards.
Fundraising
o As with anything that we do, it cost money to play football. Kirkwood is not sponsored by businesses that allow us to give equipment or play as an organization for free. Each team must manage their expenses individually.
§ Fundraising is not mandatory, but it will help supplement some of the additional cost.
o Fundraising dollars will be spent to manage the team.
§ Team trophies
§ Team banquet
§ Team tournaments
§ Team practice equipment
Anyone not wanting to fundraise may buy out for $350.00
