Review study guide questions for “My First Free Summer,” discuss author’s purpose, and have students complete (board work) vocabulary builder on p. 123. Students will also do pg. 136-137 (vocabulary skill on prefix –pre, grammar lesson on possessive pronouns, and reading author’s purpose). Homework – Complete map and paragraph on Dominican Republic.
Wednesday – September 15, 2010
Finish reviewing study guide questions for “My First Free Summer.” Have students share their map and paragraphs. Complete test practice on pg. 150-151. Introduce spelling homophones. Complete pg. 152-153. Use dictionary as needed. Complete Reading Kit p. 34-35 (prefixes) and 42-43 (homophones). Homework – Study for test tomorrow.

Reading and vocabulary skills preview on making predictions and root words (p. 188-190). Show and explain the Literary Analysis graphic organizer for plot (p. 190). Introduce “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling (p. 198) including power point presentation. Begin reading story aloud. Students complete (on board) Vocabulary Builder on p. 215.
