THE EMMAUS NEWSLETTER Volume 14 Issue 8
Columbus Indiana Area Emmaus Community, Inc. August 2006
Letter to the Community:
Chrysalis News
The Chrysalis community has been diligently working to get ready for the fall flights! John Coleman is the lay director for the boy’s flight and Bev Coleman is the lay director for the girls. John and Bev have prayerfully sought the Lord’s leading in forming the team. Slowly the team is coming together but still some team slots need to be filled. Please continue to be in prayer for the Coleman’s and the team as we come closer to the flight date. These flights are very vital to our Chrysalis community as we had to cancel the earlier flights in March.
How can the Emmaus community help? SPONSORSHIP Now that the team is coming together we need youth to attend. Please consider sponsoring. Maybe there is a youth that is in your family, church, or a next door neighbor that is waiting to hear about the Chrysalis experience.
Youth need to have completed their freshman year and be at least 16 years of age. Please be in prayer about the Chrysalis sponsorship. It is never too early to register. Applications and information are on the Emmaus Web site.
The Chrysalis Community has worked very hard in 2006 to develop and promote the Hoots for our youth. There will be a Hoot following the fall flights. If you have never attended one of our Hoots, please plan on joining us for worship and fellowship in the fall.
Fly with Christ!

Chrysalis Agape Reminder:
There are still prime spots available on the prayer charts for Chrysalis
Flights 21 & 22. The prayer charts will be available at the Gathering in
August. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up for this wonderful act of Agape, don’t delay. Also, now is the time to be preparing those wonderful Agape gifts for our Fall Flights. We ask that you prepare 100 pieces of Agape to provide for the entire flight including the team. If you can not make it to the Chrysalis send off you can bring your Agape items to the August gathering and we will make arrangements to deliver them to the camp. Please contact Brenda Stoner at 812-522-2196 or by e-mail at to arrange for delivery of Agape items or to sign-up for the prayer charts.

New Board Member Profile:
Hello, my name is Pat Shoemaker, Columbus Area Emmaus Walk #20, table of Elizabeth. My wonderful husband, John and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in May. We have four terrific children. Jared, and his lovely wife Sheri, Jamie, Jese, and Joe. We live about half-way between Columbus and Nashville, and New Hope Christian Church, north of Columbus, is our church home. We have been richly blessed being a part of that body for about 28 years.
It is also a blessing to be a part of the Emmaus Board! I am working with Christine Griggs on the Agape area of the board. Our job is to coordinate the agape for the walks. Some of the things we are responsible for are: making sure the prayer charts are filled before the walks (don’t forget to sign them at the gatherings!), signing up people to bring snack agape to the walks and making sure there is enough table and bed agape for the walks (again, your help is really appreciated!), and requesting agape letters and sending our letters (those you sign at gatherings) to other Emmaus communities all around the world! It is exciting to see how God brings everything together for these walks. Serving on the Emmaus board has helped me to see, even more, how God uses our Emmaus Community for His glory.
DeColores,
Pat Shoemaker
Agape Note
Thanks to all of you who have provided agape for the past men’s and women’s walks. We do have some left over agape from the spring walks that can be picked up at the gatherings or call Christine Griggs (812/378-9697) or Pat Shoemaker (812/988-2310). It is not too early to start making agape for the upcoming walks. Remember to have 85 pieces for both team and pilgrims, 36 for pilgrims only, for each walk. If anyone would like to serve on the snack chart, prayer chart, or send-off committees please contact Pat or Christine (above).
Also, don’t forget to add your name to the prayer charts at the gatherings. As you all know prayer is the foundation for these walks and what a privilege it is, so don’t miss out on this tremendous blessing!
DeColores,
Christine Griggs &
