Course Description
Technical Theatre I is designed to introduce students to the basic fundamentals of theater production. This hands-on program includes instruction in set design, set construction, scenic painting, lighting design, costume design and construction, audio engineering, rigging and production management. Students will complete design projects using processional computer-aided design programs and will serve as a member of a production crews. You will be required to be a responsible member of a production team by participating in theatre activities after school, evenings and weekends.

Safety Requirements
All students must agree to the following safety rules:
I will follow all of the written and oral rules/safety procedures set forth by my teacher.
I will notify my teacher immediately of any emergency.
I will wear safety goggles over my eyes when I use power tools.
I will wear ear protection when I use the saws.
I will never use equipment, tools or paint in a manner not directed by the teacher.
I will dress out in appropriate work clothes (closed-toe shoes, t-shirt and long pants) when in the scene shop.
I will pull my hair back and not wear any hanging jewelry when working in the scene shop.
I will learn the locations and operation of emergency equipment, including the fire extinguisher and first-aid kit.
I will act in a responsible manner at all times. No horseplay or fooling around should occur in the scene shop, on stage, backstage on in the classroom.
I will keep the shop clean.
.I will not use my cell phone or mp3 in the scene shop, on stage, backstage or in the classroom.
I will never eat or drink in the scene shop, on stage, or backstage.

Attendance/Make-up Work/Late Work
Students with poor attendance will have difficulty passing this class. Students that ditch will not be able to make-up work. After 10 absences you may be dropped from this class without credit. Students that are absent will have the same amount of time they are absent to make-up work. Collecting make-up work is the responsibility of the student. Late work is not accepted. The make-up day/time for missed performances is Friday during conference. Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. After a 3rd tardy in a given quarter, I will call home. After the 4th tardy, you will be referred to your grade level administrator.

Grading Procedures
Grades will be given every quarter. The quarter grades will be averaged with the final using a 40-40-20 split. Grades will start over every nine weeks. Students will be evaluated on the following things

3.Completion of work
4.Attendance at plays/performances
The grade breakdown is as follows:
100-90A
89-80B
79-70C
69-60D
59 and below is a F
Homework Policy
Homework will be given periodically. Homework could involve writing, memorization, rehearsal, research, or performance attendance. Students are required to attend ALL Hamilton Theatre Shows and scheduled rehearsals for their assigned crew. Extra credit can be given for (1) attending extra performances both on and off campus and writing a critique-25 extra credit points, (2) participating in non-academic Hamilton plays/musicals/competitions-25 points per performance day, (3) helping out in the shop after school or on scheduled Saturdays-10 points per hour.
