VanHouse called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m.

Agenda – Letter to County Rec. Board and Letter to Veteran’s Service Office were added to communications and Park Projects was added to new business. Motion by Perfetto, second Goutermont to approve the agenda as amended. MOTION CARRIED.

Minutes – Motion by Perfetto, second Goutermont to approve minutes of the April 8 meeting. MOTION CARRIED.

The board reviewed the January 2015 treasurer’s report and there was discussion about the 2015 budget.

COMMUNICATIONS

Letter to SBATA – The board reviewed a letter sent to the Silver Bay Area Tourism Association requesting a $500 donation for the Duluth and Minneapolis Boat Shows.

Letter to Northshore Mining – The board reviewed a letter sent to Northshore Mining requesting a $500 donation for the Duluth and Minneapolis Boat Shows.

Letter to County – The board reviewed a letter sent to Lake County requesting payment for the arena lease agreement.

Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation Grant – It was noted that the City has received a $2,350 grant, and that $1,950 will be used for the 2015 theater production, and $400 will be used as down payment of the 2016 production.

Letter to County Rec. Board – The board reviewed a letter sent to Lake County Rec. Board requesting payment for the first half of the County allocation funds.

Letter to Veteran’s Service Office – The board reviewed a letter sent to The Veteran’s Service Office thanking them for the donation of the flags for the Cemetery and the Outer Drive Flag display.

OLD BUSINESS

Arena / Hockey Update – It was noted that 120 youth have already registered for the summer hockey camp. Guzzo reported on Don Thompson’s attendance at the MIAMA conference, and there was discussion about air quality testing.

Marina Update – It was noted that the Marina staff is preparing for the May 15 opening.

Black Beach – It was noted that the City has received the $125,000 IRRRB grant for this project, that the fence will be installed before opening the beach, sometime around the Memorial Day weekend, and that other park improvements will take place this summer.

Pickleball Update – Guzzo reported that 22 people have participated in the pickleball program, which will be extended to May 17. There was discussion about having outdoor pickleball at the tennis courts, and it was noted that the courts could be used for both sports.

Summer Rec. Schedule – The board reviewed final draft of the summer rec. schedule. Motion by Reineccius, second Goutermont to approve the Summer Recreation Schedule and Fees. MOTION CARRIED. There was discussion about the North Shore girls 12u and 14u softball teams. The board reviewed a request for funds from the Legion baseball program, and there was a consensus that some home games will need to be played in Silver Bay as a condition of funding by the City. Motion by Goutermont, second Perfetto to approve participation in the Legion Baseball program for $250 paid to the Lake Superior Rivals Legion baseball program. MOTION CARRIED.

Bike Rodeo – There was discussion about this event held on May 6 and it was noted that Northshore Mining and the North Shore Federal Credit Union donated 6 bikes to the event.

Horse Park Proposal – The board reviewed a letter that the City Administrator sent to the interested parties regarding zoning issues in the location of a horse park within the City.

Lynch I Fencing – It was noted that the school district has not taken any action on this subject, and there was discussion about the needed projects of drainage issues, replacing the backstop and replacing the 4 foot fence with a 6 foot fence.

NEW BUSINESS

Lake County Board Meeting – Guzzo reported on his presentation at the May 5 County Commissioners meeting in which he presented the 5-year plan and discussed the County Rec. Board allocations with the Commissioners.

Park Projects – It was noted that the sewage lift pump at the Rec. Building needs to be replaced. There was discussion about needed repairs to a Bayside Park pavilion, and the lighting at the Lynch II ball field.

Motion by Goutermont, second Perfetto to adjourn at 9:50 a.m. MOTION CARRIED.
