Policy:

In the event of Fire, Bomb threat, loss of water or power, equipment failure,

or severe weather the Day Center Director or Supervising Staff member will

determine if services can safely be delivered at the PaceCenter. If the

problem is considered to be long term in nature the Closure plan will be

initiated.

Purpose:

To provide staff, contractors, and participants with a plan and procedure for

Non-medical emergencies.

Procedure:

  1. A daily census will be maintained in order to account for who is in the building in the event of an evacuation.
  2. An emergency log will be maintained to include participant face sheet with pertinent information.
  3. Participants current emergency phone numbers, and current medical information will be maintained.
  4. Contact family/caregivers to determine if participant can be safely transported home.
  5. Contact transportation to request participants is returned home.
  6. In the event that the participant can not be safely transported home, make arrangements to transport the participant to the designated alternative site, and notify family/caregiver.
  7. The participant will be transported to the alternative site via the program bus.
  8. In the event of a disaster the clients living in the community will be assessed by level of priority, and living condition. Participants and their families will be encouraged to follow their local city or town instruction on evacuation. In the event that a client does not have the ability to follow evacuation orders on their own, local authorities will be notified by the PORI staff that the participant will need assistance.
  9. Staff will contact participants/family members and assess the physical condition of the participant, and any immediate concerns. See attachment A.
  10. The Center Director will be responsible for resolving any Identified needs.
  11. All staff will be trained on Emergency Procedures at the time of hire and annually thereafter.
  12. The Emergency and Disaster plan will be tested and evaluated annually.
  13. In the event that a City or State Emergency is declared or Evacuation is ordered the PACE Organization of Rhode Island will follow instructions by local authorities. The City of Providence has developed an Evacuation Plan, (see attachment B: Evacuation plan – Port of Providence). The local Police and Fire Department will provide instruction. The district Police number is 272-3121 or 911; the district fire department number is 274-3344 or 911.
  14. For specific Emergency conditions and Basic staff response see Attachment C.
  15. In the event that the Air conditioning unit fails fans would be provided until the unit could be repaired. If repair is delayed and the safety of participants is a concern alternative arrangements will be made.
  16. This policy will be reviewed annually; staff will be in-serviced on the emergency plan annually.
