BLOG IN THE BLANK

I am writing this on Sunday evening (August 3rd) in Pskov. I am sitting in the room where I lived for the first nine months of my six years in this town. It feels good to be back! Yesterday some friends took me on a tour of some of the new cafes which have appeared over the last couple of years. This morning I went to church and this afternoon I met with another friend for ice cream and a special Russian drink made out of cranberries. On Friday I went to see Yulia, Dima and Baby Katya and will be seeing Yulia again tomorrow.

I leave Pskov on the 6pm train on Monday and will arrive in Moscow twelve hours later! Roy Crowder and Dave Friswell – from the British Methodist World Church Relationships Team – are due to land in Moscow on Monday evening so I hope to spend the day in my favourite art galleries before going to meet them. We will spend the night in the Methodist seminary and then travel to Voronezh on Wednesday on a special Methodist bus for the Festival celebrating 125 years of Methodism in Eurasia. Hans will be on the bus too!

Roy, Dave and I are leading a Bible Study on Thursday morning and I am also doing a presentation on small groups in Methodism form Wesley to the present day, co-leading a workshop about The Upper Room daily devotional magazine and serving as one of the interpreters! We return to Moscow on Sunday and will have a day to sightsee before flying home together on Monday evening. Dave and Roy have never been to Russia before so I am looking forward to introducing them to my second home and my Russian Methodist family!

The situation in Ukraine is very much on the agenda here and I was amazed to discover how many Ukrainian refugees there are in Russia. 120 more refugees arrived in Pskov this weekend and 1000 school places are needed in the Pskov region for Ukrainian children! Cities all over Russia are reporting a similar influx.

From Russia with love,

NICOLA VIDAMOUR
