Acts 19:1-10

Read 19:1-10

1 – The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the GODHEAD

Acts 2:38 – Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Eph. 1:13 – “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him, with a seal, the PROMISED HOLY SPIRIT….”

1 Cor. 6:9-11 – HCSB - Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality,no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

2 – Salvation is being saved FROM something to BECOME more like JESUS

1 Cor. 6:19-20 – HCSB - Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body

Romans 8 – NLT – 1-2 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.And because you belong to him, the powerof the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

4-9 - no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)

14-16 - For all who are led by the Spirit of God are childrenof God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

Rom. 8:29 – HCSB – “For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of HIS SON”

3 – How the Holy Spirit changes us INTO disciples:

A – God gives you a new “WILL”

Phil. 2:13 – NLT – “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

Rom. 12:1-2 NLT – “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
