How to use GPS
To get started, become familiar with the buttons on the GPS.
- To turn on the GPS, press the POWER button on the lower-right side of the unit
- Press the MENU button on the lower-left side twice to get to the Main Menu
- The “ENTER/ROCKER” button is located on the front of the GPS, just above the display screen. This button acts like a joystick, rocking up, down, right, and left to move your curser across the display screen. To select an item on the display screen, press the enter button straight in. Some people find this key to be very sensitive, so play around with it until you can feel the difference between moving up, down, right and left versus pressing in.
How to keep a trip log
- Press the MENU button twice to open the main menu
- Rock the ENTER/ROCKER button to move down to the Trip Computer icon (*)
- Select TRIP COMP by pressing in the ENTER button
- From the Trip Computer page, click the MENU button once to see a pop up menu window. “Reset” will be highlighted in yellow.
- Select RESET by pressing in the ENTER button
- Rock the ENTER/ROCKER button to move to “SELECT ALL”
- Select “SELECT ALL” by pressing in the ENTER button
- Move down to “APPLY” then select it by pressing in the ENTER button
- You’ll see another pop-up window that says “The data you have selected will be permanently deleted.” Select “OK.”
How to create a track of where you have been
- Press the MENU button twice to open the main menu
- Rock the ENTER/ROCKER button to move down to the Tracks icon (**),
- Select TRACKS by pressing in the ENTER button
- On the Track page, be sure that the tracking in on. If it is not, rock the ENTER/ROCKER button to move your curser to the “on” button and then press in to select.
How to mark a location using a waypoint (a set of coordinates)
- To create a waypoint, all you have to do is press in and hold the “ENTER/ROCKER” button to get to the Mark waypoint screen.
- When you are hiking and you arrive at the location of an invasive plant that you want to mark, Click “OK” on the “Mark waypoint” screen by rocking the Enter/Rocker button to move the cursor down to the bottom right corner of the screen and pressing in the “Enter/Rocker” button.
- To protect your data, you should download the datasheet from our webpage and write down the waypoint number, the longitude and latitude of your waypoints, and any description you want to make about the location

- You can also take a picture of the face of the GPS device showing the waypoint location, then take a photo of the invasive plant you are marking at that location. This is a great way to verify your data. Just remember to set your digital camera to macro and be careful about the sun’s glare.
