NCSA Leadership Development Program

January 2014

NCSA believes that leaders are not born, but made through experience, learning and application. In support of this ideology, we have cultivated an environment of leadership growth by developing and offering a comprehensive management development program designed for all levels of employees, covering abroad range of management lessons, principles and practices.NCSA offers three levels of learning in its Leadership Development Program.

Level 1 is the NSF-UCAR Leadership Collaboratory. This level is for members of our senior management team and for high potential new leaders. Five NCSA leaders will be participating in the 2013 pilot program. John Melchi and Jay Roloff are members of the UCAR planning committee. The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, in partnership with Chain Reaction Partners, is launching a pilot of the Center forLeadership Excellence whichis a customized program based on the acclaimed UCAR Leadership Academy and Executive Leadership Programs. UCAR will be offering this rigorous program on an open enrollment basis to other NSF-funded organizations. It is geared toward helping managers enhance their individual leadership, successfully develop others and implement teamwork and collaboration. In June 2012, representatives of a number of interested organizations met to determine what the program should achieve, the impact they wanted it to have on their staff and organizations and some of the elements they hoped would be included to make this a successful program.
