Overall job purpose / To lead and oversee strands of the Money Advice Service’s strategic coordination of the debt advice sector. This will focus on delivering specific initiatives that increase the quality, consistency and availability of debt advice across the whole sector.
To establish and maintain strong relations with debt advice agencies, creditors of all types, other ‘third’ sector stakeholders and public bodies. This is with the aim of gathering insight from the sector and influencing take-up of MAS’ debt advice initiatives.
Key accountabilities /
- Delivering sector wide initiatives and projects that promote long term systemic change and best practice sharing in the debt advice sector. This will relate to the Debt Advice Sector Strategy, MAS’ Commissioning Strategy and Peter Wyman’s Independent Review of Debt Advice Funding.
- Facilitating and leading the rollout and maintenance of the Standard Financial Statement.
- Providing the organisation with a strong understanding of the debt advice and creditor sectors, identifying risks and opportunities for the Service.
- The post holder will have a particular focus on promoting and delivering new technology in the debt advice sector, to encourage increased effectiveness and efficiency in advice provision.
- Leading on several aspects of our engagement activities with the debt advice sector, ensuring our reputation and credibility is enhanced and maintained. Additionally, forging and maintaining new relationships with emerging and previously disengaged stakeholders such as digital lenders, commercial debt advice agencies, insolvency practitioners, central government departments and local authorities.
- Facilitating the Service’s Debt Advice Steering Group, Debt Advice Operational Group and related working groups.
- Attending, supporting and contributing to relevant creditor and debt advice stakeholder events.
- Producing high quality agendas, reports, minutes, briefings and other research to strict deadlines.
- Providing subject matter expertise to other teams in the Service.
Essential requirements /
- A broad and deep understanding of the debt advice sector in the UK or other similar sector.
- A strong customer focus.
- Proven expertise at influencing and engaging senior and operational stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Extensive stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong presentation and verbal communication skills
- Solid understanding of the relevant UK political and regulatory frameworks in relation to debt advice.
- Strong prioritisation and planning skills.
- A working knowledge of the digital landscape surrounding financial guidance and debt advice would be an advantage.
- Ability to communicate complex issues in a straight forward way to non-technical audiences.
- Event management knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrable experience of project leadership and oversight.
