2. Purpose of Position
Coordinate and advise on staff training with a focus on the maintenance of competencies and career development for Guide Dog staff.
3. Responsibilities of the Position
More specific objectives and key performance indicators will be included in an individual's performance development plan.
· Identify staff training and development needs.
· Coordinate and oversee staff training module development.
· Plan, organise, coordinate and where appropriate, deliver staff training.
· Facilitate and deliver Guide Dog Services staff induction and off-boarding.
4. Key Objectives
Key Objective 1
Maintain and develop staff competencies and coordinate education and development opportunities for staff.
Tasks and Responsibilities
· Course sponsor of Guide Dog Services induction including course materials and delivery. Coordinate the induction programme for new staff, ensuring all aspects of GDS and Blind Foundation services are included.
· Coordinate practical and theoretical training/exams to GDS staff as required.
· Ensure appropriate recognition of cadetships with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and the International Federation of Guide Dog Schools for the Blind is maintained.
· Liaise with the appropriate Guide Dog Team Leader on performance planning for individual staff.
· Ensure appropriate liaison and coordination occurs between other Guide Dog Schools, and external training establishments as required.
· Develop and maintain appropriate training resources / manuals in all aspects of Guide Dog Services (including ‘library’).
· Consult with the Team Leader, Research and Development on all aspects of work on a regular basis.
· Provide support and assistance to GDS staff and contribute effectively in team processes.
· Develop and maintain off-boarding processes for Guide Dog Services. Overall responsibility for ensuring exiting staff prepare detailed handover documents (link to induction).
Key Objective 2
Ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is upheld and requirements are met.
Responsibilities
· All accidents, hazards, near misses, incidents are reported and recorded appropriately
· All practicable steps are taken to minimise or eliminate hazards in the workplace
Miscellaneous
· Undertake specific projects and activities as necessary or as required to support the Blind Foundation
· Perform any other duties as required.

7. Person Specification - Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes
Essential
· Adult education qualification (Certificate) or 3 years’ previous experience in assessment and moderation qualifications.
· 3 to 5 years’ experience in the guide dog field, or knowledge and experience in canine behaviour, development and training.
· Experienced in writing course curriculum and content.
· Current Drivers Licence, and / or driver, essential.
· Willingness to travel to fulfill the duties of the role.
· Able to communicate effectively and relate well to diverse groups of colleagues, volunteers, consumers and the public.
· Excellent written and oral communication.
· Confident at speaking and delivering courses to large groups.
· Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Confident and effective team contributor.
· Ability to facilitate learning and provide ongoing tuition to others.
Preferred
· Diploma or equivalent qualification in adult education, canine behaviour, or animal husbandry.
