Curriculum Developer(Distance Learning)

The Position:

IBC Academy and Lloyd’s Maritime Academyhave a vacancy for an additional Distance Learning Course Curriculum Developer / Producer to become an integral part of our training and education team and be responsible for developingcurriculum and contentin support of our growing distance learning course portfolio.

Applicants will ideally have experience oflearning and development, instructionaldesign, course production and working with authors/tutors, preferably in a professional educationdistance learning context. The successful candidate will be involved in researching and developing commercially successful distance learning courses predominately for the maritime, logistics and energy sectors, either in our name or working with academic or industry partners. This is a highly responsible and challenging position, working to tight deadlines and targets, but with great rewards.

Key qualities and skills required for the position:

  • Proven research skills using a variety ofprimary and secondary information sources to analyse education and training needs
  • Proven instructional and programme design expertise to structure a course, develop learning outcomes and the syllabusin conjunction with identified subject matter experts.
  • Ability to create work schedules and manage and prioritise multiple tasks, roles and priorities simultaneously
  • A talent for creating clear structure and logical flow when writing and evaluating syllabuses and course content
  • An eye for detail when copy editing, reviewing and formatting training materials written by expert authors
  • Exceptionalwriting skills combining clarity, accuracyand creativity
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Subject knowledge in logistics / energy / maritime subjects highly beneficial
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate colleagues, associates and clients on all levels
  • Candidates will preferably be degree educated, or equivalent, with an excellent academic track record

Overview of the role:

  • Analysis of trends and developments impacting the sector that can be converted into distance learning course topics
  • Identifying and prioritising topics for course development
  • Assessing the commercial feasibility of topics and conductingmarket research with key industry stakeholders and potential participants
  • Liaise with partners or third parties to initiate industry accreditation or academic validation.
  • Conceptualisation and design of compelling distance learning programmes, through desk research, phone and face to face meetings with industry specialists
  • Writing, editing and presenting course information in clear and simple English, fitting with the agreed style, making sure the information is organised effectively
  • Clearly articulate course objectives and expectations
  • Advising on appropriate interactivity for courses
  • Building a strong network of industry alliances to stay abreast of developments and make contact with potential freelance distance learning faculty members
  • Identifying and contracting authors to produce programme content, building strong relationships with contributors
  • Working closely with the marketing team to coordinate the marketing, promotion and sales plan for courses
