Internationalairtransporthasakeyroletoplayinsupportingtheachievementof theUnitedNationsSustainableDevelopmentGoals(SDGs),andisstronglylinked to13 of the 17UNSDGs. Morespecifically however, consistentwith the SDGs, airportshavemadeconsiderableprogressonmanagingtheenvironmentalimpacts ofincreasingly complexoperations.Theimplementationofenvironmentalbest practicesandpoliciesatairportsisessential to achieveanenvironmentally sustainableaviationsectorasawhole, andmorespecifically, toadvanceprogress on theSDGs.
Greenairportsrepresenthowincreased investmentin resilientgreeninfrastructure, which includes improvements to water management, greater use of renewable energy sources, andenhancedaccessibility andtransportlinkagesbetweenairports andurbancenters, canservetoaddresstheenvironmentalimpactofaviation,at boththelocaland internationallevels.
Thissessionwillexplore waystodecreasetheoverallenvironmental impactof transportatandaroundtheairport, andwillhighlighthow theenvironmental activitiesare contributing totheachievementof theUNSDGs.Itwillbegin by lookingatthesubstantialwork being undertakenby ICAO inthis area, andwill follow withinnovativeapproachestoefficientwatermanagement, noisemitigation andlocalairqualityatairportsandadjacentcommunities,includingCO2 savings fromgreenertaxiingproceduresandtechnologies.ThefocusoftheSessionwill thenshift to issues related tomobility, drawing upon the effectivegreen transformation ofairportvehiclesandground service equipment (GSE),andwill discusshowthesemitigationeffortscanbefurtherincentivized. Finally, efficient andclean transportation linksbetweenurbancentersandairportswillbediscussed withafocus onairports’role inthecoordination and planningprocess.
11:00 –11:15 / Coffee Break
11:15 –12:00 / Session 2: Airport Carbon Accreditation – When Airports pledge Carbon
Neutrality
Since its inception in 2009, Airport Carbon Accreditation has played an
instrumental rolein guidingand supportingenvironmentalactionbyairports around the world, and significant achievements have already been made with

under theircontrol.By exploring thedifferentelementsand stagesofthe programme, the sessionwillprovideinsight intoitssuccessfactors, and what lessonscan be learned fromairports alreadyaccredited.
12:00 –14:00 / KeynoteLunch:Eco-Airports
14:00 –15:00 / Session 3:Fueling AirportswithGreenEnergy
Substantial environmental and economic benefits can be reaped from taking
decisiveactiononthecleansupplyandefficientconsumptionofenergy. This sessionwillpartly look intomeasuresthatcanenhance theconservationand efficiency ofexisting energy consumptionattheairport.Consecutively, thesession willexplore theriseofairportrenewableenergy projectswithanemphasisonsolar powerandhowmoreairportscanjointhe‘solarrevolution’.Thesessionwillbe complementedwith casestudieson successful installationanduse ofPVsystems from the ICAO-European Union and the ICAO-UNDP-GEF Joint Assistance Projects.
15:00 –15:15 / Coffee Break
15:15 –16:15 / Session 3:Fueling Airportswith Green Energy (continued)
Thissessionwillalso revolvearoundtheairportas a catalyst for thewidespread, long-termsupplyofalternativefuelsfortheaviationindustry.Theroleofthe
airportwillbediscussed withrespect to itsdynamicrelationshipwithaircraft operatorsand fuelsuppliers, itsability toscale-updemandforalternativefuels,and itsintegrationinto feedstocksupplychains.
16:15 –17:00 / Discussion andWrap-Up
DAY2
09:00–10:00 / Session 4: AircraftNoiseManagement
ICAO Doc 9829 Guidance on the Balanced Approach to Aircraft Noise
Management is ICAO’s guidance to support States and aviation stakeholders’
effortsinlimiting ordecreasing thenumberofpeopleexposedtoaircraftnoise. It wasadoptedin2001andstandsasareferenceDocument forthesector. This sessionwillendeavor to look back at the noiseclimatearound airports in 2001 and assesstheprogressachievedsince, onallelementsoftheBalancedApproach. Based onICAOenvironmentaltrends, various scenarioswillbe presented, with the aim todepictnoiseexposure in themedium- tolong-term.Thiswillbe complementedby stakeholders’viewsonupcoming breakthroughsonnoise management.
10:00 –11:00 / Session 5:Community engagementand cooperation
Reachingoutandengagingwithairport-adjacentcommunitiesandstakeholdersis
anadvantageousapproach tomitigating environmentalimpactsandgrowth in a sustainablemanner.DrawinguponrecentandsuccessfulpracticesfromtheICAO
circularonCommunityEngagementforEnvironmentalManagement,thissession
willincludediscussionson howtoestablishalong-term,transparentdialogueand how tomanageexpectationsofstakeholdersindoing so.Itwillalsolook attherole of technology asa toolon interaction and disseminationof information to relevant audiences.
11:00 –11:15 / Coffee Break
11:15 –12:00 / Session 6:Financing Environmentally SustainableProjects
The upgrading of airport facilities to enhance environmental performance is
contingentonfinancialfeasibilityandtheavailabilityoffunds.Pathwaystoobtain fundingforsuchinvestmentsarealreadyavailableandthissessionwillexplore
what States and airports can do to meet eligibility criteria, and discuss other
financingopportunitieswithaviewtopromotingthedevelopmentofmoreairport environmentalprojects,particularlyindevelopingStates.
12:00 –14:00 / KeynoteLunch:the challenges linked to airportexpansion
14:00 –15:00 / Session 7:ClimateChange Resilienceand Adaptation
Theeffectsofclimatechangecanaffectinternationalaviationoperations,cause
delays and inefficiencies and consequently have environmental impacts. Discussionswillinform participantsonwhatStatesandairportscandoto identify contextualclimaterisks, suchasextremechangeinprecipitationand temperature, and examples of measures taken to future-proof airport infrastructure and operations.
15:00 –15:15 / Coffee Break
15:30 –16:30 / Session 8:SustainabilityReporting, the principles ofnon-financialratings
Investorsandothersocietalactorsareincreasinglylookingbeyondfinancialand
operationalmetricswhen rating airportperformances, and airportsare expected to demonstratethe impactofitsenvironmentalandsocialactivitiestoagreaterextent thanbefore.Thesessionwillprovide insightintoreporting standardsandpractices forairports andrelate theseto the actionsandmitigationmeasuresas discussed throughout the Seminar.
