  • Beginning consists of the title, author, and genre of the book

  • Provides some supporting details from the novel as evidence for the 12 Literary Devices
  • Maintains eye contact with classmates for a good portion of the speech

  • Attempts to show some understanding of the novel and the 12 Literary Devices, but lacks clarity and/or cohesion

  • Presents minimal details from the novel as evidence for the 12 Literary Devices, and/or presents inaccurate examples
  • Does not maintain good eye contact (looks at the teacher only or reads from index cards for a significant portion of the speech)
  • Has many vocal fillers
  • Is difficult to hear and/or understand

Less than Average

  • Does not introduce the book
  • Demonstrates obvious misconceptions and no concrete understanding of the novel and the 12 Literary Devices; lacks clarity and/or cohesion
  • Presents no clear rationale in defining the 12 Literary Devices based on the content of the novel; lacks clarity and/or cohesion
  • Presents no evidence from the novel to support and/or prove the 12 Literary Devices
  • Does not make eye contact for the majority of the speech (reads from index cards)
  • Has many vocal fillers, which detract from the content of the speech
  • Cannot be heard and/or understood
