House Tours and Bar-B-Q:
The first house on tour is The “Joseph Lawrence Stephens” house, constructed in 1786. The home is listed on the National Registry of Historic Log Houses and the State Registry of Historic Homes. Stephens was a Revolutionary War soldier and a well known local silver smith.
The second home is The “James Trabue” house located off Ky 1940. The house and barn, which is in the process of restoration, is a two story log house with a stone kitchen and fireplaces at each end. The house and barn, both 18th. Century log structures, is a rarity in this area due to the European influences in the home. The house has been faithfully restored using hand forged nails and hardware.
This restoration is a unique project involving the collaborative efforts of Charles Stephens Spears and family, the Ruddles Mills Christian Church, the Kentucky Trust for Historic Preservation and Frank and Lally House. The Houses’ are both nationally renown historians and 18th. Century artisans. Frank House is a gunsmith and Lally creates authentic porcupine quill work.
