NAME OF POSITION: Associate Underwriter
Berkley Life Sciences, of Berkley Insurance Company has a great opportunity for an energetic, resourceful person desiring to excel and grow with our company.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
As an associate underwriter, you will be responsible for the new business and renewal research, analysis, and service of business for an assigned group of producers. Berkley Life Sciences is solely dedicated to serving the needs of the life science industry (drug/biologics, medical devices, dietary supplements and service organizations that support those industries) providing sophisticated, innovative insurance products and services to life science customers of all sizes
Specific Duties:
- Assist Underwriters with daily operations; research, quote and bind new and renewal businessand document as per underwriting guidelines.
- Pre-underwrite all new line/endorsement submissions and stay within applicable binding authority
- Drive renewal process, review upcoming renewals, work with producers to obtain and evaluate all underwriting information, prepare for renewal for Underwriter
- Develop information and recommendation based on account analysis
- Identify opportunities for account rounding.
- Review account/policy rating instructions, risk analysis and provide new and renewal quotes
- Work collaboratively and effectively with, underwriting, operations, legal, home office underwriting and claims
- Provide technical and underwriting support to producers and underwriters.
- Stay current with all compliance, procedural and workflow changes.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- 3 years of associate underwriting experience including products, property, workers compensation and automobile
- Extensive experience with ISO – rates, forms and rules
- The individual should have a proven track record of building strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers.
- Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong skill demonstrated in complex account analysis, prioritization, organization and detail orientation.
- Superior sales, marketing and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledgeable and proficient with the Microsoft Professional products in additional to Internet search capabilities
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 5 years of products, property, workers compensation and automobile underwriting experience.
- Fire and Casualty or Surplus Lines license and Claims made experience a plus.
