A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Jessica James, Nicole Hadley, and Kayce Steger.
WHEREAS, it is with heavy hearts and deep sadness when we reflect upon the tragic occurrence on December 1, 1997, at Heath High School in Paducah, Kentucky, where Jessica James, Nicole Hadley, and Kayce Steger were murdered; where Missy Jenkins became paralyzed; and where Shelley Schaburg, Kelly Hard, Craig Keene, and Hollan Holm were wounded; and
WHEREAS, the victims of this senseless crime were devout, Christian young people who, because of their dedication to Jesus Christ and the love that they held for their fellow students, exercised their constitutional right to assemble in prayer each day before classes began; and
WHEREAS, through unselfish commitment to their Christian belief, and the examples they demonstrated daily, these young people are considered role models and heroes in a time where there are so few; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Jessica James, Nicole Hadley, and Kayce Steger has left a void that cannot be filled, and they are mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth and this great nation;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the tragic passing of Jessica James, Nicole Hadley, and Kayce Steger, and we do extend to their families our most heartfelt sympathy. Our deepest prayers are also extended to the remaining young people who were victimized by this occurrence, Missy Jenkins, Shelley Schaburg, Kelly Hard, Craig Keene, and Hollan Holm.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Jessica James, Nicole Hadley, and Kayce Steger.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Representative Kathy Hogancamp for presentation to the families of these courageous and loving young people.
