NSPE Critical Infrastructure and Homeland Security (CIHS) Task Force

Report to NSPE Board of Directors (2006 – 2007)

The following summarizes the major activities that the CIHS Task Force members and have either recently completed or are actively pursuing.

1.  PLAN OF ACTION

Developed and working towards a plan of action for the year that includes several key issues:

·  Creation of a State Task Force Primer in PowerPoint to assist State Societies in establishing a CIHS organization.

·  Organized a joint Task Force with the L&GA Committee to discuss the development of an NSPE Registry for CIHS responsibilities.

·  Reviewing current mission statement and objectives for alignment with NSPE mission and vision.

3.  REGISTRY TASK FORCE

In collaboration with the L&GA Committee, the CIHS Task Force is evaluating the feasibility of a CIHS registry. The purpose is to provide the public with a database of engineering resources to select from that might be used during a CIHS event.

4.  STATE TASK FORCE PRIMER

In keeping with the long-term plan of CIHS in 2005-06, an enhanced PowerPoint file is in the process of being developed by the Task Force to share with State Societies that have an interest in establishing a CIHS organization within their state. This document will draw upon the multitude of knowledge found on the Task Force.
