We recognize that involving citizens in meaningful ways provides students, parents, schools, and the community with a variety of significant benefits:
- A more common knowledge of the goals and objectives of education
- Participatory decision making by the stakeholders
- Improved academic performance
- Improved student attitudes and behaviour
- Improved working environments for educators
BorderLand offices and schools are encouraged to develop a cooperative relationship with community organizations and governmental agencies. Each school is encouraged to become acquainted with the organizations in the community and to cooperate with them in activities which have educational, recreational, and safety value for the students.
Educational Agencies and Institutions
Communication and cooperation between the Division and other educational agencies and institutions will enhance the achievement of the educational goals of the Division.
It encourages its members and its professional staff members to:
- Become involved with other education agencies.
- Cooperate with government agencies and community educational institutions.
- Share services and resources with other educational agencies.
Shared Services
The Public Schools Act provides for the sharing of services between school divisions, with other public schools, with any private schools in the Division, or with other education authorities.
Relations with Post-Secondary Institutions
The schools will cooperate with post-secondary institutions in efforts to keep students informed of opportunities for advanced learning and shall endeavour to make students aware of programs sponsored by these institutions.
Relations with Provincial Educational Agencies
It is the intention of the Border Land School Division to work cooperatively with the stakeholders in meeting educational goals in Manitoba.
These include:
- Manitoba Education
- Manitoba Association of School Trustees (MAST)
- Manitoba Teachers Society (MTS)
- Manitoba Association of School Superintendents (MASS)
- Student Services Administrators Association of Manitoba (SSAAM)
- Manitoba Association of School Business Officials (MASBO)
The Division will:
- Implement provincial statutes and regulations.
- Use the service of the provincial agencies to assist in providing quality
education for the students of the Division.
Relations with Manitoba Association of School Trustees
The Border Land School Division may look to the Manitoba Association of School Trustees (MAST) for guidance, direction, and legal advice.
