Wind Ensemble and Concert Band Student Agreement

Membership in the HFA Wind Ensemble or Concert Band is an honor and a privilege that bears responsibility. It is therefore important that all potential members understand the requirements and are willing to fulfill them. For these reasons, a high level of personal dedication is required from all members of the groups.

HFA Wind Ensemble & Concert Band Student Agreement

  1. I understand that both the HFA Wind Ensemble and Concert Bandoperate like teams; as part of a whole, my actions, positive or negative, affect every other member, therefore I will maintain a professional attitude at all times.
  2. I will create a master calendar that lists every concert, performance, and required after-school rehearsal for the entire school year. I realize that avoiding scheduling conflicts is MY responsibility. I am aware that if I fail to be present at any of these events, my grade will be lowered accordingly. In addition, missing a performance for any reason, except severe illness or family emergency, is grounds for dismissal from the group.
  3. I understand that required, graded, rehearsals occur throughout the school year. Such after-school practices for both Concert Band and Wind Ensemble are held 5 times per year after school. Concert Band rehearsals will generally occur on Thursdays and those for Wind Ensemble will usually occur on Wednesdays. They will last until 5:30 pm. All of these rehearsals are 100% required of all students involved. The only excused absence for these rehearsals is severe illness which must be accompanied by a doctor’s note.
  4. I will practice a minimum of 2 hours each week (private practice), of which no less than 1½ hours should be spent on HFA Wind Ensemble or Concert Band music
  5. I will perfect all of my music in a timely manner. I will always strive to work my music up to an 80% proficiency level within one week after it has been handed out.
  6. I understand that I am strongly urged to take private lessons on my instrument.
  7. I will respect the instructions of the director and trust his/her knowledge and expertise to lead the group.
  8. I will follow band room, rehearsal, and concert behavioral rules at all times.
  9. I will respect all other bandmembers and support them in their efforts.
  10. I understand that if I am unable to perform up to the level that is required in the group, I may be asked to sit out of one or more performances. Such decisions will be made by the director approximately two weeks prior to concerts.
  11. I understand that my grade in the class and my continued involvement in the group will be affected by how well I follow the guidelines above.
