7th & 8th Grade Conference Wrestling Tournament, Seeding & Entries

Below is some pertinent information regarding this year’s SOMSACConference Championship wrestling meet.

General Information:

~The tournament will be held Feb 24th @ Grants Pass High School

~The tournament will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (approximately)

~SOMSAC guidelines will be strictly adhered to for the Seeding Meeting and the Conference

Tournament.

~Thetournament will be a 32-man bracket tournament

Coaches meeting will be held at 8:30, Feb 24th. Scratches after seeding meeting should be reported as soon as possible. This is a scratch meeting only--no additions will be allowed as per SOMSAC guidelines.

Seeding Meeting:

The Seeding Meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb 22nd, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to approximately Noon at Grants Pass High School in the V-Tec Conference Room by the library. Report to the office and sign in as a visitor.

Please bring accurate and up-to-date records on your wrestlers to the Seeding Meeting and a typed team roster complete with coaches and stat keepers’ names to the meeting. Only school-sponsored coaches with their wristbands will be recognized at the tournament.

All schools will be allowed to enter two (2) wrestlers for the seventh and two (2) for the eighth gradein each weight class. A drawing according to the rotations established at the seeding meeting by the seeding meeting coordinators may fill brackets that have openings.

~Schools with more than two entries in a weight class may enter a 3rd or 4th wrestler in a pigtail match against a 3rd or 4th wrestler from another school. If there is only one school with an extra wrestler in a given weight and the bracket is full, the extra wrestler will be matched against a #2 wrestler from a school who has entered extra wrestlers in a previous weight.

Kelly Marval and Kathy Dungeywill run the Seeding Meeting. Please enter your line-ups in trackwrestlingno later than Tuesday, February 20 at 8:00 pm.

Weigh-Ins:

~Weigh-Ins will be held at 7:00 a.m. in the Wrestling Room at Grants Pass High School.

~Attention Coaches: Your team will all enter together to the “weigh-in.” Wrestlers will not be able to leave the “team weigh-in” until all wrestler “weigh-ins” are over. Any wrestlers that arrive late will be disqualified.

~A contestant may step on and off the first scale two times. If the contestant fails to make weight on the first scale, the contestant shall immediately step on each available scale one time in an attempt to make weight. (Rule 4-5-3).

~While teams are waiting to weigh in, there will be no attempts at weight loss. Any such violations will result in immediate disqualification of the individual.

Wrestlers, Coaches Stat People:

~Only wrestlers will be allowed to bring in food and small lunch coolers.

~Teams will be expected to sit together in their designated area as designated by a

School/team sign. Teams will find their sign when they arrive at GPHS.

~Teams that leave a mess in their designated area requiring custodial clean-up will be billed an additional $35.00.

~Wrestlers, stat people, and coaches’ seating will be in the main gym. Only coaches, stat people and wrestlers will be allowed on the main floor. Wrist bands will be issued to those individuals in order to access the main floor. We are asking for your help in informing your parents and athletes of these procedures.

Spectators, Concessions, T-Shirts & Other:

~Spectator entry fee is $5 for adults and $3 for children (under 12) and/or students with School ID.

~T-Shirts will be available at the tournament for $20 and sweatshirts for $45. Quantities limited, please pre-order.

Concessions will be offered throughout the day. Spectators will not be allowed to bring in any food, drinks, or coolers of any kind into the facility. Please explain to your athletes and parents that this is a fundraiser that is supporting school athletics.

~Spectator seating will be in the upstairs gym. Only coaches, wrestlers, and stat people will be allowed on the main floor.

Directions to GPHS: Take I-5 North to Exit #55 for US-199/Grants Pass Parkway/Redwood Hwy toward Ocean Beaches/Crescent City. At the signal, Turn right onto NE Agnes Avenue, Continue onto NE Foothill Blvd. Turn left onto A Street and then several blocks up turn Right onto NE 9th Street. Grants Pass High School Gymnasium is the big brick building right on the corner.
