A scientist is conducting an investigation in which she sets up the experiment

shown here. The cellophane membrane acts like a cell membrane. Only water molecules can pass from the beaker into the bulb. Both water molecules and glucose molecules can enter the beaker from the bulb. Glucose molecules are larger than water molecules and, therefore, move across the membrane at a much slower rate.
