Welcome to Algebra II CP! I look forward to working with you this term. My main goal is for each of you to pass this class and gain the necessary skills to move on to the next level. Another goal I have for you is to obtain the skills to pass the HSAP test this upcoming April. I hope you are excited and ready to begin this math journey! Work hard, manage your time wisely, complete all of your assignments, and you will be successful!

Attendance:

It is important for you to be in class! Your success could depent on your attendance. Don’t forget that you are only allowed to miss 10 days in this class. Make sure you make every effort to go to extended day if you are over your days. Each extended day cost $5 and you may only make up four days. If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to make up your work within 10 school days. If your work is not made up within that time a zero will be given unless we have worked out other arrangements. You will be held accountable for all announced assignments and tests on the day following an absence.

Materials:

You should bring the listed materials to class everyday unless you are notified by the teacher of a change in procedure. All graded assignments should be done in pencil. If you choose to use anything other than a pencil, you will lose 5 points off of your grade. We will use a TI-83/TI-84 Plus graphing calculator in this class. If you are able to purchase your own, I suggest a TI-84 Plus. This will help you tremendously while you practice at home, and with future math courses.

Assessment Descriptions:

·  Tests: All tests will be announced at least two days in advance. You will receive a review sheet and/or study guide for each unit. Collaboration or notes are not allowed. We will have a midterm exam halfway through the semester that will count as a test grade.

·  Quizzes: Quizzes will be announced or unannounced. Notes are not allowed and will cover approximately 3 sections at a time.

·  Classwork: Classwork assignments will be done in class with notes. Occasionally, you will work with a partner.

·  Homework: We will have homework on most days. I may not check it every day, but you are responsible for having it. I will grade it on effort not on correctness. You will receive a 100 if you try all of the problems (with work), a 70 for 2 or more not attempted (also if work is not shown), a 50 for half completed, or a 0 for less than half of the problems completed. I will accept homework 1 day late only in its entirety (with work) and it must include the original due date and the date turned in to me. If you turn in the homework the following school day, you may improve a 0 to a 70..

·  Bellwork: Material that will be covered on bellwork may be anything that we have worked on in the past and/or HSAP concepts. Bellwork will either be on the board when you enter the room or will be handed to you when you walk in the door. The timer will be set for an appropriate amount of time to complete the assignment after the tardy bell rings. The bellwork will be graded randomly. You may use your notes and work with your partner. Five bellwork assignments will count as one classwork grade. Bellwork will not be given on test days. All bellwork problems should be kept in your folder or notebook

·  Notebook Quizzes: We will have a few notebook quizzes throughout the semester. It will consist of 5 questions and you will have 10 minutes to complete it. Your notes should include the essential questions, the lesson section, examples, bell work, handouts, and homework. Keep up with everything and keep your notebook organized. If you are absent, you must get notes from another student or any handouts from me.

·  Extra Credit: You should use the bathroom between classes. Just in case, you will be given 3 bathroom/water passes per nine weeks. Keep them in your notebooks so you can present them to me when you need to be excused. (Do not tear them off). If all of your passes have been used and you need to go to the restroom, you will stay after class for 30 seconds. You may turn in your unused bathroom passes at the end of the nine weeks for 5 points each on a quiz grade.

Afterschool Time:

I will be available after school except on Tuesdays (unless announced otherwise) until 3:40. You may stay and work on your homework, make up assignments, or get extra help.

Parental Contact:

I will try to notify parents about 2 or more tardies. The attendance office will notify parents about absences. Progress reports will be e-mailed/sent according to DCSD calendar.
