Settle Up is an indispensable app for friends, roommates or colleagues who need to keep track of shared bills and expenses. It comes in handy when you're planning a group trip or a party and don't want to have it ruined by constant discussions over "who paid" and "who should pay". Both Settle Up versions have been downloaded by over 100.000 people with an average user rating 4.7 stars and are available in 17 languages. The application has been available on the application market since 2011.
Companion for life
Thanks to Settle Up, its users will have an extremely useful companion at hand. It keeps tabs over who paid, what for, how many people participated on the payment, and what is the best way to settle up. Vladislav Musial, the Bioport Software Labs owner and developer underpins the reasons why to use this application: “We all have the experience of going on a trip with a bunch of friends and finding out that there is a number of shared expenses, which need to be recorded and later resolved. It all starts with a full tank at the first gas station, followed by parking fees, grocery shopping, and finally someone covering the restaurant bill with a credit card. At the end of the trip you find out that the list of all payments grew into enormous proportions and the chances to make any sense out of it are close to zero”. Settle Up came to life with group trips and travellers in mind however others will find it useful as well. It can help a great deal to a group of co-workers, roommates or even families and couples, who like to keep their expenses in check.
A great advantage of the application is the fact that it communicates with other group members’ phones (both iPhone and Android devices) using cloud synchronization, which gives everyone a chance to actively add payments within their group. Settle Up also works fully offline. The number of groups is unlimited and one can jump from one group to another by swiping. In order to make the final settlement simpler Settle Up gives advice about who should pay next, which helps to lower the final amounts and the settlement process smoother.
The new Settle Up is focused on user experience
We made changes to the user interface of the app. We redesigned screens for managing groups and group members, so the process of creating and editing a group is now simplified and much faster. We also optimized the app for smoother UI response. No more lags when processing group data.
There are also many cool little features that many users desired. One of them is the possibility to deactivate a group member. This member does not participate on new payments and does not count towards “for all” payment. Another feature that we added is a suggestion for payment purpose. It collects user selected values and suggests them while creating the payment.

Settle Up history & background
Settle Up was originally conceived by a talented developer David “Destil” Vávra as his master thesis project and later won him an award at aDevCamp developer competition. The Android version of Settle Up also received the Vodafone Wild Card at the competition AppParade.
Bioport is a Czech creative studio based in Prague. It offers various services such as graphic design, web design, web project development, mobile apps development and marketing. For this project, Bioport teamed-up with Destil and created the iPhone version of Settle Up and the user interface design for both iPhone and Android version.
