/ JUVENILE REHABILITATION (JR)
Legally Mandated School Notification
DATE:
TO: Public School District Superintendent, Private School Administrator
FROM: Case Manager's Full Name, Juvenile Rehabilitation
Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) is the State of Washington’s juvenile justice agency. JR provides services to better prepare youth for a successful and productive future upon their return to the community. School engagement is a critical part of a successful reentry plan. When youth are better prepared to succeed in life, public safety is enhanced. JR is legally mandated (RCW 13.40.215) to provide notifications to the community when youth who have committed a violent offense, a sex offense, or stalking offense returns to their community. The law requires that JR notify the school district (not individual public schools in the district) and all private schools in the school district where the youth will be living. This letter serves as our official notification that the below named youth will be returning to your district and may be enrolling in one of your schools.
At this time, no action is required from you. This youth is currently enrolled in school while under JR commitment. If this youth will be returning to your school, you will be contacted further by the youth’s family or JR staff to facilitate school reengagement and enrollment.
Below is the information we are legally mandated to provide for each youth. If you have further questions about this letter, please feel free to contact me at the number below.
