Purpose of the role

The Academic Services Administrator (Bursaries and Scholarships) is responsible forcarrying out a range of administrative activities and processes required to ensure the delivery of high quality student-centred services for the main areas of responsibility. The role includes organising and handling data in relation to bursaries and scholarships, US loans, Canadian Student Loans and career development loans liaising with internal departments and relevant external agencies.

The role holder will work autonomously and as part of a team, communicating often complex information in a clear and understandable way. The role holder willuse initiative and judgement to resolve enquiries and issues effectively, and keep up to date with relevant legislation.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • To administer the University of Brighton bursary and various scholarships schemesincluding set up and testing parameters, assessing student eligibility and ensuring prompt and accurate payment of student bursaries and scholarships;
  • To process external loans for students such as Career Development Loans and those for American and Canadian students, including exchanging information with funding bodies and external agencies, ensuring prompt and accurate payment where relevant andensuring that information is available, up-to-date and maintained on the University of Brighton website;
  • Effectively manage enquiries from students, staff and external agencies, providing information and advice, resolving enquiries and referring on to appropriate services where necessary, ensuring a high level of customer service at all times;
  • Work cohesively with colleagues to contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of relevant services including policies, procedures, processes and information, and proactively identify opportunities for service improvement and keeping up with relevant legislation;
  • To assist the Assistant Registrar (Examinations, Ceremonies and Awards) with the wider services of the Examinations, Ceremonies and Awards team;
  • Toassistwithdepartmental projects, events or initiatives appropriate to the grade of this post, including but not limited to enrolment, open days and confirmation and clearing activities.

  • Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.
  • This is a part timepost for 20 hours per week and is permanent.
  • Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part time employees.
