Varsity Brands Presents Zionsville Community High School Show Choir with Performing Arts Achievement Award

Award given as part of the Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards

The Zionsville Community High School Show Choir was recently named the recipient of the 2016 “Performing Arts Achievement Award” in the inaugural Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards. Varsity Brands, the parent company of Herff Jones, Varsity Spirit and BSN SPORTS, created the awards to promote high student achievement and involvement. This national award is presented to a high school performing arts program which adds to the overall school atmosphere through high-quality performances.

The Varsity Brands School Spirit awards were presented at a ceremony at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida on April 30, 2016. The presentation is available for viewing at Additionally, Lauryn Turner, Vice President of Varsity Brands, and other representatives from Varsity Brands and Herff Jones, personally attended the Show Choir “FINALE” performance to present this award to the Show Choirs on May 14, 2016. During her prize presentation to directors Deana Broge and Aaron Coates, Ms. Turner indicated these show choir ensembles have a culture that “creates a sense of spirit that echoes throughout the entire Zionsville community.“ During her acceptance comments, Broge stated, “This is a true testament of hard work, dedication and excellence within our Zionsville Show Choir family.”

In August 2014, Varsity Brands released a study revealing the powerful link between school spirit, involvement, achievement and self-confidence. It found that students with higher levels of spirit perform better academically, are more involved, and feel happier and more connected to their school and community. To celebrate the very best of America’s high schools, the Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards were created to reward schools, school groups and individuals who go the extra mile to build school pride, student engagement and community spirit. There were 16 award categories in 2016, including the "Performing Arts Achievement Award,"with the winners receiving up to $1,500 in prize money totaling $25,000 awarded from Varsity Brands.
