Job Title: Counselor
Location: DISC Village, Inc – Tallahassee, FL
DISC Village, Inc. or DISC Village is a private, non-profit corporation that provides a full continuum of behavioral health services from prevention and intervention to residential treatment and aftercare services for individuals adversely affected by alcohol and other drug abuse, and may be involved in the criminal and/or juvenile justice systems. The agency consistently serves individuals and families throughout North Florida each year with a multidisciplinary staff of trained professionals and paraprofessionals.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of a Master's degree preferably in asocial or behavioral science field. It is preferred that counselors with a social science degree have a minimum of one (1) year experience in chemical addiction counseling. It is preferred that Master’s level counselors and Bachelor’s level counselors with a degree in an unrelated field of study have at least two years of professional experience in chemical addiction counseling. Also prefer experience working with dual diagnosed clients or be willing to develop co-occurring therapy skills.
- Possession of a valid Florida motor vehicle operator’s license and willingness to use their personal vehicle in the course of employment is also required. Employee will provide copy of current proof of car insurance for personnel file.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete comprehensive, individualized Biopsychosocial assessments and additional required documentation. Document assessment findings and referral recommendations in the clinical notes including writing progress notes and documenting delivery of all services.
- Staff cases as needed with a Clinical Supervisor or designee and make appropriate recommendations that will minimize future substance abuse, behavioral and affective disorders.
- Provide Assessment, Individual and Group counseling for adults and their families. Services will be provided in various settings inTallahassee/Leon County, Gadsden County, Wakulla County, Taylor County, Madison County and other Community locations. Services may be provided on evenings and weekends asneeded (funding sources and client accessibility determine hours of operation.) Counselors will conduct at least one substance abuse treatment group. Counselors may be required to conduct additional treatment groups as neededfor treatment services indicated.All treatment services provided must be researched and evidenced based and approved by the DISC Village Clinical Director.
- Sessions will be appropriately and accurately documented on daily service logs and progress notes.
- Development ofindividualized treatment plans with measurable objectives.
- Coordinate with other community-based providers, including both public and private, to provide additional services for the client.
- Provide all required paperwork to referral sources within required timelines.
- Meet with a clinical supervisor or designee weekly to develop clinical skills and staff clients.
- Complete daily Employee Services Logs/Tickets and other documentation as required.
- Coordinate urinalysis paperwork,observe same sex client urinalysis as needed and conduct Oral Drug testing on both sex clients as needed.
- Complete Client Satisfaction Surveys for each client.
Expectations Regarding Work Responsibilities:
- The Outpatient Counselor is expected to exhibit good general quality work, dependability, and effective decision-making skills. He/She is expected to maintain a professional demeanor, respect for authority, exhibit appropriate interactions skills, and maintain ethical and confidentiality standards.
- Counselors are expected to dress professionally. Blue jeans, bare midriffs, t-shirts and clothing or jewelry with drug related logos are not permitted.
- The Outpatient Counselor functions as part of a highly interactive, dynamic team. It is expected that all team members will exhibit enthusiasm, efficiency, commitment, and clinical competency. Outlying county staff is also encouraged to attend at least one (1) weekly staff supervision session per month at the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. location.
- The Outpatient Counselor is expected to perform any service or duty determined to be beneficial and or necessary for the efficient functioning of DISC Village, Inc. This will include cross training with staff in other positions and programs and providing services within that component if needed.
- The Outpatient Counselor may be needed to provide services to a different population than normally served (age, sex or other demographics.)
- The Outpatient Counselor is expected to produce a minimum of 65% billable face-to-face client services.
- The Outpatient Counselor will complete a forty-hour workweek unless prior approval from Supervisor has been given.
- The Outpatient Counselor will complete all assignments given to them by the Program Supervisor within the required timeframes.
