MARCH MEETING
Member Dave Aiken presented a well-received talk on his career in the fire service and his ministry as a Catholic Deacon, serving as a Chaplain to several organizations.

Our guest speaker for the evening will be Mr. Pat Travers. Pat is a well-known fire photographer from the SouthShore and is a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Whitman Fire Department. Pat also has his own website highlighting his photos at

In addition, we would like to bring to the attention of the Membership that our hardworking Treasurer. Recently returned from New Orleans, where he assisted in re-building homes that were damaged during Hurricane Katrina. A tip of the helmet to Bill and this worthwhile effort.

NEW BOSTON FIRE CHIEF
Fire Commissioner Roderick J. Fraser, Jr. has appointed Deputy Chief Ronald W. Keating as the new Chief of Department effective March 5, 2009. Chief Keating will replace Chief Kevin MacCurtain who retired on January 16, 2009 after 37 years of service.
Chief Keating joined the Boston Fire Department in 1970. He has held the rank of Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, District Chief and Deputy Chief. He has served as the Chief of Personnel and the Chief of the Emergency Medical Services Division. His most recent assignment was in the field as a Division 2 Commander.
In 1996, then Captain Keating was recognized by the Boston Fire Department with the Chief Gerard J. Molito Award for Professional Excellence for his work in establishing training protocols and procedures for firefighters responding to medical incidents.
Chief Keating becomes the 35th Chief of Department dating back to 1826.
