9th District Spring Cleanup Event THIS Saturday, April 13th
Please join me and my staff on Saturday, April 13th, for the 15th Annual Spring Community Cleanup along Brownsboro Road. Plan to meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Kroger parking lot (2200 Brownsboro Road), please park in the spots closest to Brownsboro Road. Enjoy coffee donated by Heine Brothers’ Coffee and breakfast sandwiches donated by McDonald’s in Clifton. Gloves, tools and Louisville PureTap water will be provided to all volunteers. Please bring your own reusable water bottle. We’ll also pass out FREE t-shirts on a first-come, first-serve basis to volunteers. The following road will be closed to traffic as noted:
· 2220 Sycamore Avenue from April 17, 2013 - April 18, 2013 to install a new electrical pole and transformer. Local and emergency access will be provided.

Saturday, April 13: St. Leonard Environmental Club Recycling Event in the Saint Leonard Community parking lot, 440 Zorn Avenue,from8:00a.m. toNoon.This year's sponsors include Commonwealth Computer Recycling (CCR) - items taken include obsolete electronic equipment (computers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, game systems, cell phones, spent ink cartridges) and DDC of Kentucky to shred all your important documentation (papers, folders, ID's, credit cards, etc.) Once again, there is NO COST for disposal - all they ask for is that each person dropping items donate something listed on the Kentucky Humane Society Wish List. Saturday, April 13: Louisville Visual Arts Association, located at 131 W Main Street, willhost the 2013 Art Auction and BY-BUY-BYE Art Sale from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The sale will offer 200 8"x8" artworks by local artists for $100 each. This event is FREE and open to the public. Art Auction from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. is a ticketed event. Tickets are $65 for members and $75 for non-members. Click here to purchase a ticket. All proceeds will benefit LVAA's art classes and art institute.
Saturday, April 13: Mighty Kindness Hootenany at Waterfront Park from Noon - 6:00 p.m. This is a FREE event.

Saturday,April 13:Preservation Louisville hosts Hands on History Workshop Series for Preservation Maintenance. The popular educational series is designed to give participants an in-depth look at various preservation issues and methods of maintaining and preserving older buildings. Sunday, April 14: The Beargrass-St. Matthews Historical Society Program will host The Draper Papers of Kentucky & the Beargrassat 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthews City Hall, located at 3940 Grandview Avenue. Enjoy a Sally Keith memorial lecture.Jim Holmberg, curator of special collections at the FilsonHistorical Society will present an original, commissioned lecture exploring the Lyman C. Draper Manuscripts (c 1740-1830.) The talk will encompass research into this vast historical collection with emphasis on Mr. Draper’s accumulation from Kentucky and the Beargrass area. The Draper collection consists of nearly 500 volumes of manuscripts, papers, and books collected by Lyman Copeland Draper about the history of the trans-Allegheny West, a region including the western areas of the Carolinas and Virginia, all the Ohio River Valley, and part of the upper Mississippi Valley from the 1740s to 1830.

Thursday, April 18: The Jefferson County Extension Office, the University of Louisville's Center for Environmental Policy and Management, and the City of Louisville are hosting a Safe Urban Gardening Community Meeting at the East Government Center at 200 Juneau Drive from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.They will be discussing practices for keeping gardens safe and healthy, providing resources to assist gardeners, and offering the opportunity to meet with others interested in urban gardening.
