Mr. Jones –
Course Content:
This course is a continuation of algebraic and geometric concepts developed in Algebra I and Geometry. We will review solving equations, inequalities, and graphing functions. We will continue their foundation of functions, use symbol and manipulation to simplify and solve, connect algebra and geometry, study conic sections, work different methods for solving system of equations, matrices, quadratic, square root, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions. We will continue to build on this foundation as we expand our understanding through other mathematical experiences.
Conference and Tutorial times:
Tutorials: 7:40 - 8:00 & 3:30 - 4:00
Conference Time: 12:15 – 1:00
Math Class Basics:
1. Do all your assignments in pencil. I will not accept work done in pen.
2. Show your work. Answers given with no work shown will be counted wrong.
3. Round to two decimal places.
4. Circle your answers. I should easily be able to find your final answer.
Assignments:
Homework – 30% Daily work will be used as a tool to reinforce daily concepts and to expand the application of skills through critical thinking activities. Homework assignments will mainly consist of problem sets or lessons in your textbook, but may also be handouts, worksheets, warm ups or participation grades.
Quizzes – 30% Quizzes may be given on a weekly basis to check student understanding of individual topics. I will not answer questions during a quiz. Quizzes may be unannounced, and may only be retaken if the student comes in during tutorials for re-teaching. You will have one week from receiving your grade to retake a quiz.
Exams – 40% Exams will be given at the end of Modules, and will cover a larger range of topics. We will review before exams, and it is important that you come to your class prepared on exam days. I will not be giving make up exams, and I will not answer questions during the exam.
Participation:
Participation in the lesson each day is very important. You will be expected to actively participate and pay attention while I am teaching and during independent practice. We will be working very hard to learn the material necessary for you to be successful on the ACT, and SAT tests, and to prepare you for college level courses.
Absences and Missed Work:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to keep up with missed assignments. All lessons and assignments will be posted in Schoology, so there is no excuse for you to not know what you missed. You may need to come in during tutorials to get the missed instruction. If you miss a test or a quiz, you will need to come in after school to take it. It is very important that you do not fall behind. You will be given a homework assignment calendar listing what work is being assigned. There is no excuse for you to not know what you are responsible for.
