Following the formal business, two special presentations were made. Brian Turiff of Tremco Canada Limited recently successfully completed the Society’s examination to qualify for certification and a Professional in Materials Management (P.MM). Brian received his certificate from Lloyd Mather, outgoing Director of Education.

Lloyd Mather and Godfrey Owen, a long-time member and Past President of the Society made a special presentation to William K. (Bill) Templeton, PCMM, P.MM who has decided to retire from the roles of Education Coordinator and Instructor in the Society’s four courses in Materials Handling and Management after serving for more than thirty-five years. Godfrey and Lloyd spoke highly of Bill’s service and praised him for his thousands of hours of selfless volunteer work before presenting a beautifully engraved bronze plaque to Bill.

After the presentations the group moved to the nearby LCBO GTA Licensee Centre for a very informative tour of this excellent facility. The 125,000 sq. ft. distribution centre supplies liquor, wine and imported beer to all of the hotels, restaurants, bars and other licensed facilities in the Greater Toronto Area. The automated systems include: order entry and inventory management; order scheduling and routing; transportation management; paperless transactions for receiving, putaway, forward replenishment, bottle-picking, and shipping; pick-to-conveyor order assembly and sortation.

The next event, to be held January 18, 2006, will be a dinner meeting and tour of the Best Buy/Future Shop Distribution Centre in Brampton. Visit the Society’s website at www.mhmsontario.com or telephone 905-857-9283 for registration information.
