Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Participants
On my name, and on behalf of the UNEP RISO Centre, I would like to welcome you in this workshop, and to express all my thanks to you for your participation, and gratitude towards the Egyptian Authorities, which has been supporting the CDM process for many years now, and our Capacity Development project in particular since its inception in September 2002.
It’s a renewed pleasure for me to be again, with you, today for this fourth national workshop on CDM held under the project CD4CDM, and to have this opportunity to exchange views on our respective experience on CDM issues and on the possibilities that are offered for implementing the CDM process in Egypt, and opportunities to stimulate CDM investments.
It’s also a great pleasure for me to be associated in having such humble contribution to developing the CDM process, together with my colleagues and experts from Egypt. The Project Design Documents preparation (so called PDD), as you are aware is a crucial step towards accessing to the CDM World, and I’m glad to notice such high level and interested participation.
In this workshop, we hope that we would be able to provide for a wider dissemination of the existing knowledge, tools and materials to allow for an effective starting of the process of developing project proposals, according to internationally approved standards: PDD format.
We are now at an advanced stage of the capacity development on CDM in Egypt, as Egypt has already completed its own National Strategy Study on CDM (NSS), and four national workshop have been already organized, besides other initiatives under the CD4CDM projects:
- First workshop: Awareness building workshop, 17-18 December 2002;
- Second Workshop: Regulatory Issues Workshop, 12-13 January 2004;
- Third Workshop: Baseline Workshop, 31 March-1 April 2004;
- Fourth Workshop: PDD Preparation Workshop, 14-15 June 2004.
With this fourth workshop on PDD preparation, we will almost be completing the whole thematic capacity building on CDM in Egypt, with the next workshop, to be held in early September, addressing the last technical thematic areas of CDM, which are: Additionality, Project Cycle and Sustainable Development Issues.
We sincerely hope that this workshop will allow Egyptian Participants to capitalize enough knowledge and experience to
