SUMMARY: Churches often have “defining moments” in their history—positive and negative. At these times, there’s a clear need for thoughtful reflection and assessment of the past, present and future. When these moments occur in the area of youth and family ministry, Youth Leadership is an incredible resource. For over 40 years, we’ve been involved with churches and youth ministry. We’ve taught at the seminary level and actively engaged church ministry leaders through training seminars and conferences.
Youth Leadership believes the local church is a place where God is at work, and it’s where there is the greatest potential for impacting teenagers. However, it takes more than good intentions to have an effective ministry to teenagers and their families. Because change is always painful, churches often need a non-reactive, outside voice to help people move through transitions. As an outside voice, Youth Leadership offers a clear process of communication to help identify the real issues, roadblocks and struggles while giving a safe place to dream together and articulate a vision for the future.
Consulting is not a quick fix, but it provides a process to clarify core values, re-name mission and vision, and increase ownership for a new future. This process will include an honest assessment of the present reality, a safe place to discuss hopes and dreams for youth and family ministry, and identifying key markers for a new blueprint which will be owned by a broad coalition of people and implemented.
The Consulting Process:
· Our consulting is not pre-packaged. We listen to what your church needs to take the next step; we tailor to your needs.
· Usually, there is an assessment process and a few meetings with a guiding coalition of church leaders to name a new future. Sometimes it works more closely with the staff as they work together on a plan.
· If the church is searching for a new leader in youth and family ministry, it could involve overseeing the whole search process and providing 3 candidates for the youth pastor position.
· In all cases, we come back 6 months later to check-in because we care about the future implementation of anything we discuss.
Every church context is different; therefore, Youth Leadership works with each church to best meet its needs regarding youth and family ministry. The framework for each consultation is (a) analysis, (b) designing a customized solution and (c) helping gain clarity around implementation strategies towards a new future. Three examples of what Youth Leadership can help with include (a) helping a church and its leadership gain clarity of vision and strategy; (b) clarifying core values of youth and family ministry, building a clear understanding of the future while providing a safe place to heal from the past; and (c) assisting a search committee / leading search process for a new youth pastor.
