Adult Co-ed Slow Pitch Softball LeagueRules

EQUIPMENT

  1. Each team provides game balls; teams will hit their own balls.
  2. Men will hit USSSA Classic M 12” Softballs (.40 COR, 325 lb) and Women will hit USSSA Classic W 11” Softballs (.44 COR, 400 lb). Updated April, 2015
  3. Uniforms are optional-no metal cleats. Please wear clothing that is respectful.
  4. HOME TEAM is the second team listed on the game schedule. (Example: 1 vs. 2, 2 is the home team).
  5. The HOME TEAM will be the official scorekeeper. Official score books and score board control box will be in the concession stand and shall be picked up by the home team of the first game and returned to the concession stand by the home team of the last game.
  6. Umpires, not teams, will be in charge of putting bases away.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Persons eligible to participate must be 16 years of age at the start of first game or older and not playing in an organized high school league. Players that are under 18 years old must have a permission slip signed by their parents or guardian on file at the RecreationCenter.
  2. Players may not play on more than one team.
  3. All team members must be on the official roster & signed at the RecreationCenter before they can play in a game. Rosters will remain open through the entire season. No roster additions will be allowed after the halfway point of the season.
  4. Team registration fee must be paid for by the first game of the season. You will not receive the league schedule until the fee is paid for, or arrangements have been made with WRC Sports Director.

GAMES:

  1. Schedules and games begin at league discretion and will be established by the Recreation Commission.
  2. Game time is forfeit time, no exceptions. The game may start with 8 players.
  3. No inning may start after (55) fifty five minutes except that ties will be played off (*subject to RecreationCenter rules).
  4. All scheduled games will be played form start to finish, regardless of protest, unless caught by the time limit. (Regular game is 7 innings or 1 hour time limit, whichever comes first.)
  5. All teams must have at least (8) eight and not more than (10) ten players on the field at the start of the game.
  • A normal game with 10 players shall consist of five men and five women. A team may play with more females than males but not more males than females.
  • No 2 males can bat in a row or there will be an automatic out placed in between them.
  • When only 8 or 9 players start a game, there will be NO automatic out in the 9th or 10th batting spot.
  1. Base distance is (65) sixty-five feet. The 1st base will be a double base, if available. Players rounding first and attempting to get back to first to avoid being tagged out must touch the “White” portion of the base.
  2. Pitching distance is (50) fifty feet. Pitching is slow pitch. Height limit for legal pitch 6-12 feet.
  3. An arc of 165 feet (from home plate)will be used in the outfield when females are at bat. Every outfielder must remain behind this line until the pitcher pitches the ball. If a defensive player goes across this line before ball is hit the result will be a no pitch if the ball is not put in play. If the ball is put in play and an out is made, the batter will be awarded first base.
  4. Every batter will start with a 1 ball 1 strike count.
  5. Batting order-The batting order shall alternate genders unless there are more females than males. (I.e. male-female-male-female etc.)
  6. EH Rules-If EH is used batting order must consist of 6 men and 6 women.
  7. Defensive Positioning- Alternating sexes between pitcher and catcher. Not more than 2 males and 2 females in the infield, or 2 males and 2 females in the outfield.
  8. Male base on balls-Advance to 2nd Base and Female has the option to hit or take 1st Base.
  9. Open substitution will be allowed, batting order must remain the same.
  10. The run rule of 15 runs after 3 innings and 10 runs after 5 innings will be enforced.
  11. This league is formed for fun, fitness and recreation. Winning is not necessary to accomplish this goal-GOOD SPORTMANSHIP IS.
  12. Five homeruns per team limit per game is allowed, anymore will result in an out for the remainder of game. This does not include inside the park homeruns.
  13. NO ALCOHOL IN DUGOUTS OR ON PLAYING FIELD AT ANYTIME
  14. Any rule not stated on this sheet will follow USSSA guidelines. This is a fun league and as long as everyone is on the same page, then we will not get too technical.
Post Season
  1. In case of tied records: Head-to-head meetings (if one team defeats the other team in 2 of 3 or all 3 regular season contests, that team will receive the higher place finish)
  2. Championship T-shirts will be awarded to the winning team.

Wellington Recreation Commission Adult Sports Leagues Conduct Policy

WRC Adult Sports Leagues are FOR FUN. Players, coaches, and fans are expected to display sportsmanlike qualities at all times before, during, and after games. It is understood that games can get competitive but it will be expected that all players, captains, fans and officials act in a respectable manner when handling conflicts.

Failure to abide by this policy could lead to ejection from games, suspension from league play, or even suspension from all WRC adult sports programs. These rules will be enforced by the interpretation of the WRC Sports Director or WRC official/umpire.

The Wellington Recreation Commission reserves the right to refuse anyone from entering an Adult Sports League.

  • Major Infractions:
  • Fighting or physically striking another player, official, or fan
  • Punishment-immediate ejection from the game, suspension from all adult sports programs for one (1) year.
  • Verbally threatening another player, official, or fan
  • Punishment-immediate ejection from the game, suspension determined by WRC management.
  • Disrespectfully addressing, threatening or contacting an official gesturing in such a manner to indicate resentment.
  • Punishment-immediate ejection from game, suspension determined by WRC management.
  • Minor Infractions:
  • Excessive profanity
  • Taunting, berating players, officials, fans
  • Any act toward an official, player, or fan that is perceived unsportsmanlike
  • Punishment-Individual will be given one (1) warning; if actions continue then they will be ejected from the game.
  • If an individual is ejected, then they will have 60 seconds to leave the facility. If they fail to do so, their team will forfeit that game.
  • Incident Reports
  • If a player is ejected from a game, an incident report must be filled out by the official and confirmed by both team captains (if team captain is not present, then another member of the team will confirm). Then will be signed by official and both team captains.
  • If a player is injured, an incident report must be filled out and signed by a witness.
  • Appeals
  • The official onsite at the game will have the final say and will not be protested.
  • Any appeal of suspensions must be directed to the WRC Sports Director.
