Meeting Minutes

About the CSIM Status, the chair, Stefano Giordano, talked about the existing mailing list along with the proposal of a questionnaire in order to know the number of attendees in the committee.

The next topic was about the Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Periklis Chatzimisios said that the interest is known for these groups and the chairs of each group where presented. Stefano Giordano stated that a number of actions should be presented in Globecom 2013, otherwise the SIG will be closed. Harris Skianis said that there is activity in this field. Michael Devetsikiotis said that the specific requirements for the activity needed should be clarified and Stefano Giordano said the CSIM TC should be presented and mentioned in every activity. He proposed that a group should be recruited with the responsibility of collecting papers that will help to do a good evaluation. The important goal is to introduce the committee to the community.Michael Devetsikiotis stated that the people of each SIG should be presented.Stefano Giordano said that the best paper award should appear in the Wiki. Harris Skianis talked about the measurements and said that a good example is the proposition of Christos Verikoukis and Joel, concerning the proposition of the Wiki. Fabrizio Granelli said that the status of the SIGs should be checked, whether they are active or not. He wanted to summarize the activity of each group, by sending an email to the coordinator of the SIGs to know whether the SIGs will continue existing or not. All the SIGs have some problems, but it is strict to say that they should be closed. More members should be presented and in addition, Fabrizio Granelli stated that until Globecom 2013, papers should be presented under the framework of SIGs.

Stefano Giordano, furthermore, continued that tutorials should be given and the newsletter evolution should be clarified. The newsletter should be dynamic.

About the CSIM 2.0, a volunteer is needed for exploiting different tools, e.g. twitter, facebook, linkedIn, google alerts). These are new ways for communicating. Google alerts are new and a way to share the publication of papers among the committee. A live face-to-face meeting will be held twice a year (usually in ICC and Globecom). A kind of blogger should be utilized. Fabrizio Granelli stated that periodical activities should be published to the mailing list and volunteers to do that should be found. The question is which tool should be used. For example also, if a tool sends SMS, that should be perfect. Harris Skiannis said that there is a tool that shows when and who are the people that sign in.

The subject about the CSIM Volunteerswas then discussed and Stefano Giordano said that we are in search of young and active volunteers for the web activities. Periklis Chatzimisios agreed. Vasileios Miliotis said that there is a tool that aggregated the alerts of the different web tools (he could be a volunteer). Moreover, Petros Spachos said that there is a tool, crowler that uses the mailing list in order to send automatic alerts (he could be also a volunteer).

The next subject was the CSIM Awards. In particular the numberof paper awards in Globecom. Nelson Fonseca presented the existing best paper awards, including best paper (there was a symposium in CAMAD), best conference award. A structure should be found for each award. Nelson Fonseca said that he would like to be replaced in this award committee. Stefano Giordano he said that the rules for the awards should be clear and the requirements for each ward should be clarified. Who will be the chair of the CSIM Award Committee. Maybe we can only have 4 paper awards. One person could be nominated to be in the committee and to be in charge for the awards. He said that every symposium should suggest two papers.Periklis Chatzimisios said that a volunteer is needed in the awards committee. There is the need of enthusiastic new people.Michael Devetsikiotis said that the existence of 4 awards is ok. The inactive awards should be taken care of (Michael Devetsikiotis) instead of changing the policy (Nelson Fonseca).

A new attendee from Ottawa (Dr. Burak Kantarci) proposed a new SIG on Cloud Networking/Cloud Computing. Burak Kantarci, Sushmita Ruj, Periklis Chatzimisios and Dzmitry Kliazovich could be responsible for the new SIG on Cloud Computing. Members should be found. Nelson Fonseca clarified that this group on Cloud Networking should propose something new and not abstract. The focus should be on the performance.

About the Members Support & Evolution distinguished lectures should be given.

The Forthcoming Events were the next discussed subject. ICC 2018 maybe in Adu Dhabi? What are the other sponsored events?

2013

ICC, Globecom, CAMAD + Sponsored events

Performance evaluation -> papers needed

Stefano Giordano said that some IEEE conferences should be improved (e.g. CloudNet)

2014

CAMAD: where? George Michailidis (who was also in Globecom) proposed Greece (Thessaloniki).

2015

ICC in London UK -> Christos Verikoukis

CAMAD -> not known

Globecom -> not known

Other conferences?

As for the Topics of Interest in ICC/Globecom, the topics should be disseminated and discussed, in case that some should be dropped. Harris Skianis asked who is inviting the people. It is important to send more e-mails, in case that TPC members do not reply or do not comment. He suggested having separate lists. Michael Devetsikiotis said that mapping of the topics is needed; variations for the cloud should be proposed in order to not be general. The titles should be changed and we should check if they are successful.

The meeting adjourned at 19.15 p.m.
