Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’S)

What types of vendors are approved?

Our first priority for the market is to approve as many vendors as possible who sell produce, meats and eggs from local farms. We do not accept produce re-sellers. As space allows, we also accept vendors who sell homemade baked goods, jellies, jams, preserves and honey. Other food and products may be accepted if the vendor has the required license(s).

Crafts are limited to those with a food or gardening relationship, including soaps made with natural ingredients, and culinary items, such as cutting boards, pepper mills and aprons.

What should I ask the farmers at their booths?

One might ask the produce vendor:

·  Where the vendor’s farm is located and how long they have been a farmer.

·  What produce is currently in season and how has the rain (or lack of rain) affected their crops?

·  What do you do to manage pests in your garden and if were bug problems this year?

·  When today’s produce picked and how the produce should be stored.

·  What are the farmers’ favorite recipes for their produce.

Why can’t I find all the fruits and vegetables that are available in stores or other large farmers markets?

At a local farmers’ market you will only find fruits and vegetables that are currently available, ripe, and in season. This means you might not find beans, cabbage, and other products until months where they can mature or grow with necessary temperatures.

Why do the produce vendors sometimes run out?

Get to the market early for the best selections to ensure purchasing amounts available from harvest when local crops are just beginning to be harvested, the quantity of produce may be less than it will a few weeks later.

What are Acceptable Payments at the Market?

Cash is the preferred payment. If you need cash, there is a bank with an ATM located on Main Street near Steverinos restaurant. A few vendors, at their discretion, may accept credit cards or checks.

What happens in case of rain or severe weather conditions?

The market is held rain or shine, except in case of severe weather. If thunder and lightning should begin during market hours, all customers and vendors will be asked to leave the market area and take shelter immediately

Is handicapped parking available?

There is a handicapped drop-off area and limited handicapped parking near the market. There is additional handicapped parking around the Town Green.

Why do you limit the number of craft vendors you accept?

The market is a farmers market and is not intended to be a craft festival. We do accept a small number of craft vendors and those we approve must offer a craft with a food/garden relationship.

How much does it cost to rent a booth?

Please see the Duluth Farmers’ Market application for a fee schedule.

What size tent can be accommodated in a booth space?

We strongly recommend that vendors use a tent or canopy to protect them from the sun and rain. Booth spaces will easily accommodate a 10’ x 10’ canopy. Canopies must be weighted. Vendors should display their farm or business name in their booth space or on the canopy to provide easy identification for customers.

If I am selling foods that must be kept cold, such as meats or eggs, may I bring a refrigerated truck or generator into the market area?

Yes. We have a designated an area at end of the market parking lot for vendors who need to leave their refrigerated truck or generator in the general or immediate market area. Access to electricity is available for an additional charge. Vendors must provide their own extension cords.

May I bring a vehicle into the market area to unload?

Yes. We allow vehicles in the market area prior to the market opening as early as 2:45 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Once vendors have unloaded their vehicle, they are required to park around the Town Green parking areas until reloading so customers can be accommodated during market hours.

May I bring my dog to the market?

Well behaved dogs are welcome if you bring bags to clean up after. Pets must be kept away from vendor booths and food items for sale at all times. We reserve the right to ask dog owners to refrain from bringing their pets if there are problems.

Are solicitors allowed in the market?

No. Solicitors will be asked to leave the market area as well as on surrounding City property. Only approved vendors may sell at the market.
