69th Geneva International Music Competition – Piano & Flute (16 Nov – 5 Dec.)
RESULTS OF THE SECOND ROUND - FLUTE
Geneva, Sunday 21 November 2014 – For immediate release
After completing the second round, 8 competitors out of 18 have been selected to move on to the semi-final of the flute competition, which takes place on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 November at the Music Conservatory in Geneva, Switzerland.
Results of the second round:
For the second round, flute candidates had to prepare a free recital with piano or harpsichord. They were required to prepare a 45-minute programme containing works from at least three different periods: baroque, romantic and 20th Century. The 8 candidates selected to continue to the semi-final round are:

Mr. Ting-Wei CHEN (24 y.o, Taiwan)
Ms. Adriana FERREIRA (24 y.o, Portugal)

Ms. Helena MACHEREL (19 y.o, Switzerland)
Mr. Alexander MARINESKU (26 y.o, Russia)
Ms. Yaeram PARK (18 y.o, South Korea)
The flute semi-final takes place on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 November at the Music Conservatory. Candidates will have to perform two pieces: a compulsory piece, “Pneuma” for flute solo and small ensemble by Kwang Ho Cho, prizewinning work of last year’s Composition Prize, as well as Claude Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, viola and harp. Both works can be performed with the score.
Members of the flute jury are: Ms. Emily Beynon (Great Britain), Chairwoman, Ms. Silvia Careddu (Italy), Mr. Mathieu Dufour (France), Mr. Eyal Ein-Habar (Israel), Ms. Andrea Lieberknecht (Germany), Mr. Felix Renggli (Switzerland) and M. Hideaki Sakai (Japan).
Geneva International Music Competition – Piano & Flute 2014:
This year, the Geneva International Music Competition takes place from 16 November to 5 December. All competition rounds are open to the public and take place at the Music Conservatory, the Studio E. Ansermet and the Victoria Hall. The flute Final will take place on Monday December 1st with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Nicholas Chalvin and the piano Final on Tuesday December 2nd with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Alexander Shelley. Both of these events will be broadcast live on RTS.ch, Espace 2 and ARTE Concert, then on MEZZO TV.
