The Philadelphia chapter is pleased to announce the annual Lichten Award Competition for the Mideast region, to be held January 24, 2007. The award is named in honor of Robert L. Lichten, who spent much of his career championing early tilt-wing and tiltrotor concepts. The Lichten Award competition provides an incentive to AHS members, who have not previously presented results of their work at a national technical forum, to begin presenting at local and regional AHS meetings. To be eligible, the entrant must be an AHS member and cannot have been the primary presenter at a national forum. AHS members who have co-authored papers, but are not the primary author or the presenter at a national forum, are eligible.
The competition consists of 20-minute presentations, which will be ranked based on originality, technical content, relevance of contribution, organization, and clarity. A written paper is not required except for the winner of the regional competition. The winner of the regional competition will receive a $100 honorarium, and will be invited to participate in the national competition to be conducted through a written paper, which paper would be due February 15, 2007. The winner of the national competition will be invited to present his/her paper at the AHS Annual Forum, with all expenses including travel, lodging, and registration paid.
In order to enter the competition, please submit a 500 word abstract no later than January 5th, 2007; electronic submittal is strongly preferred. Presentations for the Regional competition should be provided by January 19th, 2007. Again electronic submittal is strongly encouraged. Inquiries and abstracts should be submitted to:
