In the event of a disaster, STAY OFF THE PHONE except to report emergencies and make sure your phones are properly hung up.
If you NEED to make a call, try sending a text message. They are short, more likely to go through & don’t tie up phone lines needed for emergency personnel. It is often easier to get through to an out-of-state phone number than a local one.

AlertSCC is a powerful mass notification system that will be used to send emergency information and instructions to anyone who lives or works in Santa Clara County. AlertSCC will send messages to phone numbers included in the emergency 911 and 411 directory listings. Get original copies of birth certificates for each person and keep in emergency binder. These can be obtained through the county recorder’s office for each county in which the person was born. Most can be ordered online for a small fee.
