Categories, courses, resources and activities

SchoolPlus online has a specific structure that helps both you and your teacher with all of your lessons and assignments. It will help you with both the written work you will turn in, and your online assignments. Let’s explain it:

Categories – you see this block on home page.

You can also return to the home page from any other page – just click on the “Home” link.

When you click on any of the categories (Mathematics, English or Russian), you receive list of sub-categories. Each sub-category could have other sub-categories or courses. A course is what a teacher will teach through the year or semester. A teacher might teach several courses in different sub-categories. Each course has assigned teacher.

For example, you see several courses Edison_Math… and the teacher: Mary Marvin.

The first time you need to pick your course from Categories,' block and click on it.

You’ll need to enter an enrollment key that your teacher will give you. After that you’ll become a participant of this course and you’ll see this course in “My courses” block. You need to enter the enrollment key only once to be enrolled on this course.

You can see your courses on the Home page in “My courses” block:

After clicking on a course in which you are a participant, the following screen will be displayed:

Let’s explain each area on this screen.

·  Block “People” – menu “Participants”

When you click it, you will see all students enrolled in this course.

·  Block “Activities”

Your teacher can organize your course either by topics, or by weeks. The topics

are the different things you will study. Or your teacher can list your assignments

by week. Your teacher will tell you which one you’ll be using.

Each topic/week consists of list of activities and resources.

Activities – an assignment, a quiz or other things your teacher asks you to do. The activity allows interactive entries by students, called submissions. So on this block you see different types of activities and resources for this course, and you’re able to see them all.

Resources are things like a webpage or a link to some site that your teacher wants you to look at.

·  Block “Search Forums” – search messages in course forums

·  Block “Administration” – you’ll be able to review your profile and grades.

·  Block “Latest news” – all the news and interesting information about your course.

·  Block “Upcoming Events” – you can see course events on a calendar

·  Block “Recent activity” – your recent activity for this course.
